TECHNOLOGY TIPS - CHICAGO HISTORY ON TAP

Today's technology tip is more about an interesting website than technology per se. Welcome to History on Tap. A company run by Liz Garibay who unabashedly states, "Many years ago I developed the saying that alcohol is the lubricant for history, and it's true."

Garibay grew up in the Old Town neighborhood, a child of immigrants. Her love of history came when she was at the Field Museum as a high school sophomore and was offered an internship which led to a B.A. in anthropology. She worked for the Chicago Historical Society until three years ago. She started History on Tap tours in 2007 as "History Pub Crawls" for the Chicago Historical Society.

History on Tap was started in 2002 as a personal research and writing project. The focus was history and culture observed through an alcoholic lens. She would listen to old-timers talk about anything and everything, whether someone from the neighborhood or politics. After writing down the stories, she'd research their accuracy which ultimately led to the walking and talking tours she provides today.

The tours have taken a a global approach and they are currently preparing for an Austria experience from September 22 through October 1. If you are are interested in more information, mark you calendar for April 12 for the 6:00pm info session. And for us northsiders, on April 23 at 1:20pm (of course), sign up for the Cubs 'N' Pubs tour set to take place. Not to worry though, there is no game while you take a walking tour of Wrigleyville saloons where you'll learn history about the Cubs, neighborhood and ballpark.
