With spring break wrapping-up this weekend for some, while others are just simply looking forward to another weekend off, Chicago offers the following events this first weekend in April!

The Museum of Science and Industry (57th St. and Lake Shore Dr.) in the Hyde Park neighborhood will be offering this Saturday and Sunday (9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.) the following event/exhibit:

In celebration of National Robotics Week, the museum is hosting a variety of robotic teams and activities (through April 10th) which include robots designed by Chicago-area student and amateur teams as well as talks by top university robotics scholars, viewing a live robotics competition, interacting with state-of-the-art robots and much more! This event also features other activities that include designing your own robot, making-your-own robot antenna and more!!

The Brick By Brick exhibit features a spectacular collection of over a dozen giant LEGO®-built structures of engineering marvels that include the Golden Gate Bridge, the St. Louis Gateway Arch, the International Space Station, Hoover Dam and many others! Here you will learn how architects and engineers push the limits of design, materials and location. Exhibit highlights include build your own LEGO® creation, build and test structures to withstand heavy winds in a wind tunnel and earthquakes at the tremor table, collaborate to build a life-sized arch, walk over a simulated city on a sturdy I-beam and much more. You will marvel at how they make the seemingly impossible possible!!

Another great way to wrap-up spring break is at the Donut Festival this Saturday (12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.) at Moe’s Cantina (155 W. Kinzie St.) in the River North neighborhood. Tickets include donut tastings from some of Chicago’s most famous and favorite donut shops & bakeries as well as 3 drink tickets valid for mimosas, Irish coffee, adult hot chocolate or beer. Sample a variety of Rings, Long-Johns and Crullers as guests celebrate their love for these delicious, sugary treats! I’ll try not to eat them all before you get there!!

Sunday kicks-off the running season here in Chicago as well as continuing the St. Patrick’s Day celebration with the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K at Grant Park (337 E. Randolph St.) in The Loop with Wave 1 of the race kicking-off at 8:30 a.m. This 4.97-mile race weaves its way through downtown Chicago, starting and finishing in Grant Park with a Post-Race Party (9:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m.) featuring live music (9:30 a.m.) from Stache, one of Chicago’s premier cover bands! And, for those of you still in the mood to continue your partying, the Race After Party (2:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m.) is being held at The Scout Waterhouse & Kitchen (1301 S. Wabash Ave.).

However, prior to the Shamrock Shuffle, the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K Health & Fitness Expo will take place on Saturday (9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.) at McCormick Place, West Building, Hall F (2301 S. Indiana Ave.) in the South Loop and is open to the public. This event will feature over 80 exhibiting companies who will be offering the latest in running footwear, apparel, nutrition and technology!

For Those on Spring Break – Enjoy Your Last Hoorah! For the Rest of Us – Enjoy Your Time-Off!!
