CHICAGO NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS - PORTAGE PARK, LAKEVIEW, WEST LOOP, RAVENSWOOD, NAPERVILLE

PORTAGE PARK

Calling all volunteers for a true neighborhood Spring Clean Up & Art Dedication event this Saturday 4/2 from 9:00am - 2:00pm. Six Corners Association is putting out an open call to anyone wishing to beautify the area after a long winter. 4041 N. Milwaukee Ave. will be the meeting place on Saturday morning. Be sure to wear old clothes and work gloves, if you prefer. Complimentary donuts and coffee will be provided and then it's time to pick up trash, clean up sidewalks and parkways, remove graffiti, report potholes and clean murals. Also, two new full-sized murals will be installed during the day with a dedicated at a ceremony held at 1:30pm at the intersection of Cuyler and Milwaukee Avenues. RSVP along with your families to foster good habits around the community. Students may also be able to use this event as service hours.  Email Jessica at jessica@sixcorners.com for more information and to RSVP.

LAKEVIEW

Just days ago, a Boil Water Advisory had been planned to go into effect on Tuesday 4/5 for at least 24 hours due to the Mariano's complex currently under construction being connected to water services. The initial plan would have required a strip of Lakeview East restaurants to temporarily close until the job was finished and water could be tested. Residents between 3000 - 3417 N. Broadway St. would have needed to boil all water for at least 5 minutes to be consumed or used for washings until potable water service was restored. Many restaurants were unhappy with this plan and collaborated with the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce and Ald. Tom Tunney to come up with a better solution. DNAinfo.com now reports that the order has changed. Now the work will be done late at night and the city will shut the block's water off from Monday 4/4 at 11:00pm through Tuesday 4/5 7:00am. Any late night businesses will need to be closed at that time, according to Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce executive director, Maureen Martino, but will be able to reopen by 7:00am Tuesday.

WEST LOOP

The West Loop Community Organization (WLCO) is promoting local non-profit organizations by presenting the Non-Profit Resource Fair. Thirteen non-profits, including Chicago Children's Theatre, Mercy Home for Boys & Girls, and Tutoring Chicago, will be showcased to engage the community by sharing resources and knowledge of how their organizations are serving the community. Appetizers and wine will be provided by Blue Plate Catering and cocktails by CH Distillery.  IGC Creative at 1143 W. Rundell will host the event next Thursday 4/7 from 5:30pm - 7:30pm.  $10 minimum suggested donation for WLCO members and $15 donation for non-members. All donations will be distributed between the participating organizations.

RAVENSWOOD

What are you doing next Saturday 4/9? The Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club (NBGC), just south of the Ravenswood area at 2501 W. Irving Park Rd., is offering a night of respite for Parent's Night Out from 6:00pm to 11:55pm. The offer is open for children ages  4 - 13 years old to enjoy an evening at the Clubhouse for activities, games, movies, pizza, and snacks. For $25 for the first child and additional $10 per sibling, you can plan a date night for yourself and a cool play date for the kids.
