The Chicago Department of Transportation has been testing ten of the bridges spanning the Chicago River, one bridge per day, since March 17th and will continue through March 30th. Anticipate these bridge closings 9:30am - 2:30pm on the following days:

Thursday 3/24 - Dearborn Street Bridge

Monday 3/28 - State Street Bridge

Tuesday 3/29 - Wabash Avenue Bridge

Wednesday 3/30 - Columbus Avenue Bridge

Also the Michigan Ave. Bridge will be closed overnight, 10:00pm - 5:00am, on Thursday 3/31 and Friday 4/1. Drivers and sailors, be aware that the 2016 Spring Lift Season starts on Wednesday 4/ 16. Prepare to hit your brakes or launch your sails respectively with's 2016 Bridge Lift Schedule.   


Spring Break is right around the corner for many grade schoolers. What can be done to keep them safe and occupied? Well you have until noon tomorrow, Friday 3/25, to register for Lincoln Park Zoo's Spring Break Camp, for the March 28 - April 1 Session. There's also an April 18 - 22 Session with that registration deadline at noon Friday 4/15. Non Zoo members prices are $168/week for kids aged 4 years old to Kindergarten, and $335/week for 1st - 4th graders for Camp T-shirt, snack, and African safari themed activities. Hurry to register because Morning Sessions for PreK - K are already sold out. Still available are PreK -K Half-Day Programs from 12:30pm - 3:00pm, and 1st - 4th graders can be registered for Full-Day Programs from 9:00am - 3:00pm. The Gold Coast Neighbors Association is holding a New Member Recruiting Event for anyone interested in keeping the Gold Coast awesome. You can be involved in beautification, safety, historical education, and community cohesiveness by serving on one of the GCNA's many committees. Admission is $10 for nonmembers for the March 26th Recruiting Event this Saturday from 4:00pm - 6:00pm at Butch McGuire's (20 W. Division St. ). The Naperville Exchange Club, dedicated to eliminating child abuse and domestic violence since 1987, has made a generous donation of $50,000 to the Care Center of Edward Hospital (801 S. Washington St.). The Care Center is a specialized pediatric patient room (est. 1990) that provides medical services to children, teens, and special needs adults who may have been sexually abused.  The contribution was made possible from the Naperville Exchange Club raising more than $12.5 million during last summer's Ribfest.


One 8th grader and one high school senior currently residing in and attending school in Norwood Park has the chance to win a $500 scholarship with this year's Norwood Park Chamber of Commerce Dollars for Scholars Program. Applications are being accepted now through 5:00pm on Saturday 3/30. Winners will be announced on Memorial Day, Monday 5/30. To apply, students must submit a completed Application Form, official high school transcript or current grammar school report card, proof of residency from current school, 2 non-family member Personal References, and a 500 word essay answering the question, "What would you do if you were President for the day?" A question I'm sure many of us adults have been asking ourselves lately.  Start working on or pestering your children to get working on applications today! We'll be sure to mention this again before the April 30th deadline.
