St. Patrick's celebrations have been going on since the weekend and today is the traditional death date for the patron saint of Ireland... so let's keep drinking, eating corned beef, and jigging to foot-stomping Irish fare! The Lincoln Square and Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce has put together a handy list of local specials for the occasion. There will be traditional food and music at The Grafton (4530 N Lincoln Ave.), Old Town School of Folk Music Store's annual sale (4544 North Lincoln Ave.), and in case you've had it with the food and booze already, Women's Workout World (2540 W. Lawrence Ave.) is having an open house with free workout classes, and so much more.

Hey, West Loop artists, you haven't missed your chance to submit your application to be one of the juried artists featured in this summer's West Loop Art Fest. The application deadline had been set for tomorrow, Friday 3/18, but now late applications are being accepted. According to the website, only original artwork of any medium that has not been mass produced by no more than 2 artists is eligible to be part of the 150+ exhibitors/vendors for this popular outdoor event. Application and show fees apply. Follow the link above to learn more to get your application started and entered. The Fest isn't until 9/17 and 9/18 so get moving to get your work out there!

Restaurant Week continues in northern Chicagoland starting tomorrow, Friday 3/18, through Saturday 3/26. This time it's Evanston's turn to showcase its local restaurants for affordable lunches and dinners throughout the neighborhood with a weeks' worth of prix fixe menu selections and discounts. There's no end to the feasting and I can't quite tell if that's a good or bad thing. Evanston Chamber of Commerce wants you to know it's a wonderful thing and here's a sampling of restaurants that have specials for the sampling in the coming week.

After the weekend on Monday 3/21 at 6:00pm, the Portage Park Neighborhood Association is co-hosting a panel discussion for parents and any community members interested in better understanding the state of Chicago Public Schools (CPS) budget cuts. A panel of representatives will be on hand to discuss what negotiations are going on between the state legislature, the Chicago Teachers' Union (CTU), and other organizations to aid in this crisis. The community forum is being hosted at O.A. Thorp Scholastic Academy at 6024 W. Warwick Ave. instead of the regularly scheduled Public Meeting Portage Park Neighborhood Association holds to discuss local business matters. That meeting will be rescheduled at a later time. The Association believes now is a good time to address these issues and to get the public involved by hearing from all sides of the table, including members from CPS, CTU, local and state politicians, and Raise Your Hand which is a grassroots coalition of parents and concerned citizens who advocate for quality public education for all children that was established in 2010. Click on the link above to learn more about the event.
