THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO - LOOK-OUT -- HOLIDAY MADNESS IN FULL SWING!

 Macy's Window Santa Claus - 11-27-2015

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving because Holiday Madness is in full swing here in Chicago and the Chicagoland area with many great festivities to help you enjoy the season!

For those of you who “overstuffed” yourselves on Thanksgiving, the Turkey Trot 5K takes place at Arvey Field, Grant Park (Columbus Dr. & Roosevelt Rd.) on Saturday (9:00 a.m.). Participants can either run or walk the 5K which starts at Grant Park and provides a great view of the City’s skyscrapers, lakefront and Field Museum, with a water station, provided along the way. Your little ones are welcomed as well and can participate in the Free Kid’s Dash! All participants will receive a Fleece Hooded Pullover and a Finisher’s Medal while awards will be given to the top 3 participants, male and female, in each age group. So come on out and work off that Thanksgiving dinner so you can go and enjoy the other Holiday celebrations taking place this weekend!!

Holiday Windows at Macy’s (111 N. State St.) in the heart of The Loop runs through January 3rd. Macy’s has been a long-time favorite shopping spot among locals and visitors alike as well as their “Holiday Windows!” See stories being told through Macy’s beautiful window displays as you walk from window to window. It’s a Holiday tradition that goes back more than 100 years!!

Liberty Bank for Savings is hosting a Free Screening of “Polar Express” at the beautifully remodeled Logan Theatre (2646 N. Milwaukee Ave.) in the Logan Square neighborhood this Saturday at 12:00 p.m. Both young and old will find Polar Express (a young boy embarks on a magical adventure to the North Pole on the Polar Express. During his adventure he learns about friendship, bravery, and the spirit of Christmas) to be an enjoyable Holiday movie with Tom Hanks in the roles as the Hero Boy (motion-capture only), the Hero Boy's father, the Conductor, the Hobo, Santa Claus, and the Narrator!

ZooLights returns for its 21st year to the Lincoln Park Zoo (2200 N. Cannon Dr.) in the Lincoln Park neighborhood for a family-oriented holiday celebration with the flipping of the switch on November 27th and then running Fridays-Sundays (4:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m.) through January 3rd. The night sky is illuminated with two million lights that also include larger-than-life lighted animal and seasonal features. Holiday crafts, kids’ activities, ice carving demonstrations, visits with Santa, sweet treats and much more round out the festivities! It’s a spectacular celebration of the season and not to be missed!!

Explore some of Chicago’s most spectacular winter sights on a Chicago Trolley Holiday Lights Tour that departs and returns to the John Hancock Center Plaza (875 N. Michigan Ave.) in the Streeterville neighborhood this Saturday through January 2nd at 6:00 p.m. This lightly narrated 2½ hour tour showcases the City’s radiant and abundant holiday lights that include the Macy’s Holiday Windows, the Magnificent Mile, Millennium Park, Christkindlmarket at Daley Plaza and much more! Best of all, for the first time ever, each passenger will receive a complimentary treat at Sprinkles Cupcakes!!

Finally, one of the Chicago area’s top Holiday “must sees” is Wonderland Express located at the Chicago Botanic Garden (1000 Lake Cook Rd.) in Glencoe (suburb north of the City). This annual Holiday event features 750,000 outdoor lights, an indoor exhibition of garden-scale trains that wind past miniature replicas of over 80 Chicago-area landmarks all decked out for the holidays as well as caroling, ice sculpting, handmade wreaths for sale, a Holiday Market and much more. It’s truly a family-friendly event! Hey, kids – look for Thomas the Tank Engine!!
