CHICAGO NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS - NORWOOD PARK, LINCOLN PARK, WEST LOOP, LINCOLN SQUARE, EVANSTON

NORWOOD PARK

There's still time to donate to the Garvy Elementary School's annual walkathon. This year's event will have the proceeds buy Chomebooks for an entire classroom at the school. Students donate $5 to participate and if they raise $25 or more will receive a t-shirt. Local businesses are also encouraged to donate $50 for recognition in the school's newsletter. The organizers hope to raise $10,000. In previous years the walkathon raised funds for the library and to purchase musical instruments for students.

LINCOLN PARK

And the Halloween fun is beginning. It's time to head out to the Lincoln Park Zoo this Friday for a free double feature of Ghostbusters starting at 6:30pm and The Shining at 8:20pm. Meet on the South Lawn at 2100 N. Clark Street.  Be sure to keep the slime at bay! It's the last free outdoor movie screening until next year.

WEST LOOP

This is not your Kraft Macaroni & Cheese.  The Mac-and-Cheese Fest is this Saturday from noon-3pm at the UIC Forum.  With over 50 local restaurants showcased, come out and enjoy the latest in this all you can taste event. The cost of the ticket is $50 which includes 5 drink tickets. A portion of the proceeds benefits Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana.

LINCOLN SQUARE

The Windy City Playhouse announced it will be opening its doors in the community in spring 2015. The theater's managing director Evelyn Jacoby said, "A comedy can be incredible art. We want to be easy on the ears, easy on the eyes and a great night out of art that's full of fun." The space has seating for 150 and is available for rentals. The premiere season includes productions directed by troupers from Steppenwolf and The Goodman theaters.

EVANSTON
