KATHY'S HOME & GARDEN TIPS - TWO WEEKS UNTIL THANKSGIVING

It is only two weeks until Thanksgiving!  Hopefully last week, you finalized your guest list, ordered your meat and pies and checked out some new recipes to try.  I’m definitely going to have at least one new item this year.  Maybe some garlic mashed sweet potatoes or creamed pearl onions.  YUM!

Finalize your menu.  Don’t go too crazy!  Three vegetables and two types of potatoes in addition to the meat course are usually sufficient.  Some people like to have a lettuce salad also but I usually just do a small crudite platter along with olives and pickles.  As far as rolls go, I know folks love the Pillsbury Crescent Rolls but that’s just one more thing taking up space in the oven.  I just buy some small parker house style roll from the bakery, a minute or so in the microwave and they are warm and yummy!

Now is a good time to check out your linens and dishes.  Get out the table cloths.  Are they clean?  Press them and fold neatly.  An extra table can always come in handy around holiday mealtime.  A small card table can handle overflow from the buffet or hold plates, napkins, glassware and utensils.  Make sure you have enough serving dishes, trivets and utensils.  If you are short of utensils and cash, The Dollar Store is a great place to get extra serving pieces on the cheap!
