It appears that some of us in Chicago have welcomed in autumn, while others of us are having a difficult time with that transition. Well, this last weekend of September will bring you both summer and autumn festivities, along with summer-like temps, to assist you with your seasonal transition.

A celebration of food and wine showcasing more than 100 of Chicago’s finest restaurants and chefs, presented by Bon Appetít, takes place this Saturday (12:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.) and Sunday (12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.) at the Chicago Gourmet being held at Millennium Park (201 E. Randolph Street) in The Loop. Attendees will be able to enjoy dozens of live cooking demonstrations, gourmet tastings, expert seminars and book signings by internationally renowned chefs, master sommeliers and others. This event also extends beyond Millennium Park into some of the best restaurants in the area!

The Hyde Park Jazz Festival returns for its annual, free two-day fest featuring over 170 jazz musicians from across the globe this Saturday (1:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m.) and Sunday (1:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.) on 13 stages throughout the Hyde Park neighborhood. From the Wagner Stage located at Midway Plaisance Park (1130 Midway Plaisance North) to the DuSable Museum, each stage offers a unique concert experience from artists such as the Dana Hall Quintet, the Gerald Clayton Trio, Anat Cohen & Douglas Lora and many others. But wait, there’s also an outdoor dance floor, food truck vendors, picnic spots, local artisan vendors, panel discussions and much more rounding out what could be the last outdoor music fest of the summer!

One of the city’s oldest churches built in the late 1800’s, St. Alphonsus Church (1429 W. Wellington Avenue) in the Lakeview neighborhood will be celebrating its German roots and the change of season at their 13th annual Oktoberfest Chicago this Saturday (11:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.) and Sunday (11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.).  Plenty of brats, beer and live music on two stages are highlights of this fest along with the always-popular “Kinderfest” with family-friendly activities on Sunday afternoon!

A one of a kind fest featuring Chicago’s best local furniture and home accessory makers, vintage and antique collectors, and local retailers of home design takes place this Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at this year’s Design Harvest Fest on Grand Avenue between Damen Avenue and Wood Street in the West Town neighborhood. Besides shopping for a variety of goods to spruce up your home, attendees can partake in art making activities, paint a pumpkin, take a family hay ride, enjoy a cold beer, delicious food and live music and much more!

Another autumnal fest, the Rogers Park Harvest Fest, takes place at the Willye B. White Park (formerly Gale Park) (1610 W. Howard Street) in the Rogers Park neighborhood this Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. This free outdoor family celebration of the changing of seasons features hayrides, a pumpkin patch, inflatables, festive entertainment and refreshments!  Please note that all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

It’s Back!  The 2nd annual Rosehill Cemetery Crypt 5K Run & Walk takes place this Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Rosehill Cemetery (5800 N. Ravenswood Avenue) in the Edgewater neighborhood for its fall/pre-Halloween benefit for the American Diabetes Association. Run or walk through this sprawling 350-acre Victorian-era cemetery that opened in 1864 and is home to more than 10 Chicago mayors, Cubs’ announcer Jack Brickhouse, Oscar Mayer and scores of Civil War vets.  There’s also a post run/walk party for those of you who may need a little something extra after running into one of the residents (BOO)!

Will You Be Transitioning This Weekend?
