CHICAGO NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS – LOOP, NORWOOD PARK, LAKEVIEW, LINCOLN SQUARE, OAK PARK

LOOP

I absolutely adore funnel cakes.  They are yummy and still give you that fabulous feeling of summertime.  As our summer begins to wind down head over to Blackfinn Ameripub which opened Thursday, September 19.  It's a huge space that is best for after work drinks, celebrating a team outing (booths fit 10 people), chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches.  It's sure to be a great place where you can enjoy the comfort foods of your youth.

NORWOOD PARK

This year pack up the kids and head out to the Norwood Park Chamber Fall Fest.  From last year's festival a few things were changed especially for the kids to have more fun.  First there will be three bounce houses from noon to 7pm, not to mention a balloon-animal artist and face painter. In addition the First Presbyterian Church will be hosting indoor crafts for the kids from 1-5pm culminating with "Wreck It Ralph" showing outdoors.  You do not want to miss it!

LAKEVIEW

With a name like Bombay Bliss how can you go wrong?  This new Indian restaurant boasts favorites like naan, gyros, falafel and more.  Great news is that it's a BYOB so you can also bring your favorite wine and settle in for more fine dining like thai chicken, shrimp ceviche and more.  This is the second restaurant by the folks who own Indian Garden in Edgewater.

LINCOLN SQUARE

It's never too early to start giving and Fleet Feet Sports is the place to do it.  From now until October 19, assistant principal Anita Ivory and her sister, public defender Danita Ivory, have started the "Sleeping in My Boots" campaign.  Says Ivory, "I see children come into schools with shoes too big or too small for their feet all the time." This year they would like to 1000 pairs of new shoes in children's sizes 10 through 4 that can be passed out to children on October 26.  Think of it as a great treat for Halloween.

OAK PARK

It's that time of year when Oak Park residents are asked to vote for their "Best Of" for 2013.  You'll vote for best food, best beer selection, best appetizer list, even best gas station coffee.  The voting includes Oak Park, River Forest and Forest Park locations.  Voting is available from September 18 through September 25 with winners announced October 2.  Be sure to be heard on your local favorites.
