THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO - CHICAGO NOT THROWING IN THE TOWEL YET!
With the dog days of summer nearing their end, we in Chicago are not throwing in the towel yet especially with the heat wave of this past week.  However, this weekend brings a touch of coolness to come and is a great time to get out and enjoy the City’s street festivals while they last!

The 9th annual Lakeview East Festival of the Arts returns to 3200 N. Broadway Street (from Belmont Avenue to Roscoe Street) in the Lakeview neighborhood this Saturday (10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.) and Sunday (10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) showcasing more than 175 juried artists.  These artists in almost every medium will feature world class original paintings, sculpture, furniture, photography, ceramics, jewelry and much more.  Besides the art sale, this fest also features a beer and wine garden, kids’ activities and live music provided by some of Chicago’s favorite musicians!

The 11th annual Crush in Old Town returns to 1520 N. Wells Street in the Old Town neighborhood this Saturday (12:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.) and Sunday (12:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.) with something for everyone.  This neighborhood street party features wine tasting tents, craft beers, works by juried artists, a kids’ crafts activity area, live entertainment and a new ingredient for 2013 – “special” macaroni dishes prepared by several neighborhood restaurants!

Head on down to the south edge of Lincoln Park (near the 1800 block between Stockton Drive and Clark Street) in the Lincoln Park neighborhood for the first ever Lincoln Park’s Cutest Pooch on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Sponsored by Hotel Lincoln, this FREE event features a silent auction and raffle prizes with all proceeds to benefit PAWS Chicago along with treats, water and a chance for your Fido to win the coveted title of Lincoln Park’s Cutest Pooch!  There is no registration fee to enter the competition so don’t forget to bring Fido!!

It’s time again for the Bacon Takedown being held at Lincoln Hall (2424 N. Lincoln Avenue) in the Lincoln Park neighborhood this Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  This bacon competition pits 20 local cooks against one another and entrusted with 15 lbs of Hormel Black Label Bacon to create 20 best bacon recipes!  The winner will walk away with cookware prizes and a year’s supply of bacon!!  But the best part is all ticket holders get to sample ALL the bacon creations – YUMMY!!!  As Fido would say, “I smell bacon.”

The Riot Fest & Carnival returns for its annual late-summer music festival to Humboldt Park (1440 N. Sacramento Avenue) in the Humboldt Park neighborhood this Saturday and Sunday with gates opening at 11:00 a.m.  This festival for all ages features a variety of live music by such bands as Fall Out Boy, Blink-182, Blondie, Pixies, The Replacements, Violent Femmes and much more as well as food vendors, free water stations and carnival games.  There also are a number of official “after parties and shows” throughout the festival weekend for those unable to attend Riot Fest!

The annual Walk and Run for Wishes returns to Montrose Harbor (601 W. Montrose Avenue) in the Uptown neighborhood this Sunday at 8:00 a.m. to raise money for children with life-threatening illnesses here in Illinois.  So break out your best costume for this 5K run or family fun walk and help make wishes come true for these kids!  By the way, dogs are welcome and encouraged to come donning their best costumes!!

And finally, this weekend’s 2013 Chicago Movies in the Parks series wraps up another year this Sunday with “Stomp the Yard” at Marquette Park (6743 S. Kedzie Avenue) in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood.

Does It Look Like Chicago Is Ready To Throw In The Towel?  Are You?
