CHICAGO NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS – NORWOOD PARK, LAKEVIEW, LOOP, GOLD COAST, NAPERVILLE

NORWOOD PARK

Yesterday as you drove through Norwood Park on Devon Avenue, you would see a simple yet poignant sign, "Never Forget."  This banner is put up every year by local resident, Desiree Luburich, and it stays up for a few days after 9/11.  Put simply she says, "It's important to me that these people aren't forgotten."  If you are driving in the neighborhood, don't be surprised by the honking horns.  It's the supporters of this simple and poignant gesture.

LAKEVIEW

Summer's not quite over and what better way to celebrate than to get some ice cream.  Opening this Saturday at 3404 N. Southport is Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream.  They are not your typical chocolate and vanilla shop.  You'll be able to get some exciting flavors like roasted-strawberry buttermilk or peach jam and biscuits.  Even though they have wonderful flavors, don't forget to pick up your favorite sauce.

LOOP

Come to the Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel this Friday, September 13, to enjoy their Caribbean Cool Down Party.  The party is a benefit for Children's Miracle Network and lasts from 5-9pm.  Cost is a $25 donation per adult and includes an open bar, food and island music. Join the other revelers at Bar Novo while looking down scenic Wacker Drive.

GOLD COAST

Who says comfort food can't be upscale?  Come on out to the newly opened Doc B's Fresh Kitchen in the Gold Coast.  They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  You can grab a Bow Truss coffee for breakfast or enjoy a delicious New York strip from Publican Quality Meats. For lunch don't miss out on the burgers - ranging anywhere from the Dragon to the Veggie, they are sure to please.

NAPERVILLE

Each weekend in September and October the Morton Arboretum hosts their Theatre-Hikes.  If you're a fan of Americana you can enjoy An Afternoon with Mark Twain in September.  The October hike appropriately features, The Passion of Dracula.  The performances last three hours so be sure to bring a blanket and/or chair and wear comfy shoes.  September shows begin at 1pm and October shows begin at 3pm and meet at the Thornhill Shelter (Parking Lot 21) to start your hike.
