KATHY’S HOME & GARDEN TIPS – PAINTING TIPS FOR SMALLER ROOMS

If you have small rooms next to each other try to use colors that are similar in the same spectrum. Not the same color but in the same color wheel. They will complement each other.

Always test paints on the wall first. Most paint stores sell sample sizes. Paint dries a different color than wet. Look in all the different light levels during the day to find what looks best.

Accent a focal point in the room and use a contrasting color. You could use a window or a doorway. Paint a frame for a mirror in a bright color. The color draws your eye and the mirror makes the space seem larger.

If your small space is for relaxing use cool colors like blues or greens. Orange, yellow and reds are good for creativity and vitality.

Don't forget your fifth wall, the ceiling! Paint it yellow to resemble sunshine. Use cooler colors to draw the eye up to make the ceiling seem higher.

Use an accent wall to draw attention. Leave other walls neutral. Train the eye to go where you want as the room's best feature.
