As we enter into the second weekend of July here in Chicago, along with the typical heat and humidity of summer, a “tasteful” summertime experience awaits you with the hope of milder and less humid conditions for your weekend outdoors!

What better way to kick-off the “tasteful” weekend than with the Taste of Chicago which actually opened its gates on Wednesday (11:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. July 10-12) and runs through Sunday (10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. July 13-14) at Grant Park (337 E. Randolph Street) in The Loop.  Now in its 33rd year, the Taste went through some changes last year for the better. Besides the Taste’s annual classic favorite restaurants, this year welcomes some newcomers such as “Flip Crepes,” “Lao Ma La Chinese,” and others. New to the pop-up restaurants are “Hearty Restaurant,” “Pecking Order,” and others. And, one hour before the Petrillo Music Shell evening concerts, food trucks will be selling food items. Also featured at the Taste are live music with grammy award-winning band “Fun” among others, Dominick’s Cooking Corner, The Family Village with plenty of kids’ activities, the Fleet Feet Sports Kids’ Dash on Saturday and much much, more!!

Bub City, Chicago’s newest BBQ restaurant, is proud to announce the first annual Windy City Smokeout in the River North neighborhood at Illinois, Hubbard & Rush Streets with gates opening at 3:00 p.m. on Friday and 12:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.  It’s a celebration bringing together the best live country music with performances by Jerrod Niemann (8:00 p.m. Friday), David Nail (8:00 p.m. Saturday) and Pat Green (8:00 p.m. Sunday), along with beer and BBQ where attendees can enjoy southern-inspired food from various premiere Chicago BBQ restaurants. Sunday is Family Day where children under the age of 12 get free admission before 4:00 p.m.!

Tantalizing and mouth-watering burgers from some of Chicago’s finest restaurants will be featured at the annual Roscoe Village Burger Fest this Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at 2000 W. Belmont Avenue (Belmont and Damen Avenues) in the Roscoe Village neighborhood.  You’ll definitely be in “taste” heaven with the awesome selection of traditional (finest ground beef, turkey & veggie) and gourmet burgers at a cost that’s less than their menu prices!  There’s also a fantastic music lineup as you stuff your faces!!

Now in its 9th year, West Fest offers its attendees a chance to explore this festival’s cultural offerings of local food, live music from local bands and DJs, local eclectic vendor booths, local artists along with arts & crafts, Kid Fest activities and Pet Fest vendors this Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Chicago Avenue between Damen Avenue and Wood Street in the West Town neighborhood. Needless to say, this event is locally planned and managed so you can truly experience all West Town has to offer!

Back for its 2nd year, Square Roots returns to 4400 N. Lincoln Avenue (Lincoln and Montrose Avenues) in the Lincoln Square neighborhood on Friday (5:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.), Saturday (12:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.) and Sunday (12:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.) with two outdoor stages, two indoor stages with over 60 acts, unique vendors, delicious local food and over 30 craft beers!  Also featured are nightly dance parties, open jams and plenty of family activities. There’s definitely something for everybody so bring your whole family out for a great weekend!!

The Irish American Heritage Festival returns to the Irish American Heritage Center (4626 N. Knox Avenue) in the Mayfair neighborhood on Friday (6:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m.), Saturday (12:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m.) and Sunday (12:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m.). Here’s your chance to listen to the best in Irish music from more than 100 performers on 5 stages, enjoy the best of Irish and American fare, partake in children’s and family activities, compete in a mashed potato eating contest, or a freckle contest, or the Irish soda bread contest, or the men in kilts contest and much, much more!!

Finally, this weekend’s 2013 Chicago Movies in the Parks series features the following movies at dusk, weather permitting, and free admission!

“Return To Me” – Oz Park (2021 N. Burling St.) – Lincoln Park

“Men in Black 3” – Washtenaw Park (2521 S. Washtenaw Ave.) – South Lawndale

“Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory” – Woodhull Playground Park (7340 S. East End Ave.) – South Shore
