CHICAGO NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS – PORTAGE PARK, LINCOLN PARK, WEST LOOP, RAVENSWOOD, EVANSTON
PORTAGE PARK

Mark your calendars for the Portage Park Neighborhood Association's Bike Parade on June 15 from 12:00-3:00pm.  Join the group starting at the northeast corner of Long and Berteau at 11:45am.  The parade will end at the Six Corners BBQ Fest where bikers can enjoy free hot dogs, chips, drinks and fun kid games.  There are opportunities to win prizes in the raffle.  Bring the family along and get started on your summer festivities.

LINCOLN PARK

I don't know about you but I absolutely love to try out new sushi places in Chicago.  One of the newer entries into this genre is Juno.  Chef B.K. Park (Arami) and restaurateur Jason Chan (Urban Union) have teamed up to open this newest Lincoln Park hotspot.  The menu is what you'd expect with sashimi and sake, but there's a little den of excitement in the back.  Here you'll find Chef serving whatever he likes at a private omakase chef's table.  Bring seven of your closest friends and check it out.

WEST LOOP

Newly opened in the West Loop, The Garage.  It's a lot of things but basically it's being billed as a lunch counter, food truck and record shop (as in vinyl) all in one. Brought to you by Salsa Truck, when you stop by you'll find a place to sit at the little lunch counter and true industrial feel. You'll have to look at their website to get a general sense of what they're serving that day. So it's called The Garage because in the back is a 3,000-square-foot truck depot, sort of a reloading station for the city's various food trucks where other trucks will soon be able to guest-host.

RAVENSWOOD

There's definitely not a lot of these magnificent eateries in Ravenswood - French Moroccan Chez Simo. Considered a new little hideaway, it's BYOB which makes it even more appealing for the foodie in you.  With an interior like a local French bistro, this mom-and-pop's menu is slightly more sophisticated with menu items like steak au poivre with cognac sauce, foie gras, coq au vin, and Moroccan influence in the form of lamb shank with couscous.

EVANSTON

Beach season has already begun in Evanston, have you purchased your tokens yet?  Tokens can be purchased from the Morton Civic Center or other local community centers during regular business hours. The cost for residents is $34 and $58 for non-residents. Free beach days for Evanston residents will be held at Clark Street Beach on Mondays from July 8 through August 26, 2013. A limited number of free beach tokens are made available through the City of Evanston's Recreation Division and various community outreach agencies/organizations to Evanston residents who meet income guidelines.
