Most of the snow has melted.  Its still winter and another weekend is upon us.  But wait, could that be opportunity knocking at Chicago's door I hear?  It sure is.  Here's your opportunity to chase those winter blahs away!

The Music Box Theatre's 70mm Festival arrives this weekend and runs through February 28th at the Music Box Theatre (3733 N. Southport Avenue) in the Lakeview neighborhood.  This two-week film festival presents a variety of classic films in 70mm which include 2001: A Space Odyssey, Vertigo, Lifeforce, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, West Side Story, Hamlet and others.  For those of you not familiar with 70mm film, it's a format that allows for more information and more visual clarity than its 35mm film counterpart.  There is a depth to the image unlike that shot in 35mm, and of course, very different from digital projection which is used today.  70mm films became popular in the ‘40's through the ‘80's; however, few people have had the chance to see true 70mm presentation since it all but disappeared when DTS sound and Dolby Surround were introduced to cinemas.  Go check it out for yourself!  It's a great opportunity!!

The Vintage Strong Beer Fest 2013 returns to Delilah's (2771 N. Lincoln Avenue) in the Lincoln Park neighborhood on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for its 15th annual tasting event.  Featuring one hundred beers from over 50 regional breweries, here's your opportunity to taste strong ales which are brewed during and for the winter and early spring months, barrel aged beers such as the J.W. Lees Harvest Ale, a King & Barnes Christmas Ale from 1998 as well as ten vintages of Sierra Nevada's Bigfoot Barley Wine, and live beers.  Admission is $20 for a sampling of the offerings with information about each product.  This tasting is a must opportunity for beer connoisseurs or even would be beer connoisseurs!

BeadQuest 2013 returns to Murphy's Bleachers (3655 N. Sheffield Avenue) in the Wrigleyville neighborhood on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.  This is your opportunity to participate in the 5th annual crawl to over 30 Wrigleyville bars where you can compete to collect special Numbered Disc Beads (1 thru 9) for your chance to win great prizes and gift certificates from participating establishments.  The crawl ends back at Murphy's Bleachers for a finale party - karaoke onstage!

Here's your opportunity to bring back one of High School's fondest memories at this year's Prom 2013: Third Time's A Charm held at the Rebel Bar & Grill (3462 N. Clark Street) in the Wrigleyville neighborhood on Saturday from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.  This 3rd annual bash includes appetizers and a drink package for $60/person with proceeds benefitting Autism Speaks Chicago, Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation and Chicago Run.  Don't forget to don your favorite prom wear - tuxes, tuxedo tees, suits, prom or bridesmaid dresses - as formal is "encouraged!!"

Here's a rare opportunity you don't see often - The Chicago League of Lady Arm Wrestlers XV will be held on Saturday from 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. at the Logan Square Auditorium (2539 N. Kedzie Avenue) in the Logan Square neighborhood.  Watch female arm wrestlers duke it out as well as participate in a Valentine's Day craft and kissing booth.  Your $25 admission not only includes the show but also an open bar for the entire event!

Finally, for those who want to take the opportunity to get outdoors regardless of the weather, two Chinese Lunar New Year Parades take place in celebration of the "Year of the Snake."  The Hip Sing Association (1121 W. Argyle Street) in the Uptown neighborhood will host its parade on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and China Town (Wentworth Avenue from 24th to 22nd Streets) will be hosting its parade on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.  Both parades will feature elaborate floats, dancing lions, marching bands, the Tongliang Dragon Dance and much more!!

Will You Be Answering The Door This Weekend?
