TECHNOLOGY TIPS – CHICAGO’S TECHLOCATOR PROGRAM

There is this little known technology service in Chicago that has been around since 2007.  The Mayor had an Advisory Council on Closing the Digital Divide, which wanted to connect today's residents with the infrastructure of the Internet in a free to extremely low-cost environment.

A good example of one of this free service is the more than 70 Chicago Public Libraries.  Our libraries offer not only computers but also free Wi-Fi.  Senior centers have computer labs and technology training classes for residents age 50+.

The program that provides this service is called TechLocator.  It's designed to help Chicago residents and visitors find places that offer free or affordable technology resources and services, like computers with Internet access, Wi-Fi hotspots and technology training.  By bringing these resources to the many residents of Chicago, the Department of Innovation and Technology is making accessibility available to everyone.
