Another Thanksgiving down and so we head into "the most wonderful time of the year". That's right! It's time to get ready for Christmas again. Here are some great events to help you jump start your holiday spirit this weekend.

So maybe you'd like to burn off a few of those Thanksgiving calories and show off your holiday spirit at the same time? Then you should register to join the Ugly Sweater Run! Here's a great excuse to proudly don that colorfully loud sweater that grandma gave you. This 3.1 mile jog begins Saturday Nov. 24th at 11:00 a.m. at Montrose Beach House in the Sheridan Park area. There will be snow machines and hot chocolate and sledding pit stops to add to the fun. Folks are being encouraged to drop by Bar Louie (333-335 N. Dearborn St.) on Friday Nov. 23rd between 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. to pick up your starter packet ahead of time, rather than wait in line on race day.

Maybe it's been awhile since your last visit to Shedd Aquarium. Well on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. Shedd will be hosting ‘The Polar Express' Breakfast. Come on down to 1200 S. Lake Shore Drive for this great event that includes a private screening of "The Polar Express," a drawing for prizes, seating for the aquatic show, and a commemorative photo along with breakfast. $44.95 for adults. $34.95 for kids 3-11 years old.

The Bucktown Bazaar lets you support the arts while finding one-of-a-kind gifts for family and friends at this annual event. It takes place Saturday and Sunday at Holstein Park (2200 N. Oakley Ave.) and features 80 local artists.

This weekend kicks off several seasonal events that have become traditional family affairs for many Chicagoans:

Lincoln Park Zoo (2001 N. Clark Street) will be switching on their holiday lights Saturday with ZooLights presented by ComEd and Charter One.  As always, it's free to enter the zoo and there will be family-oriented holiday activities throughout the grounds. You can enjoy the ZooLights starting tomorrow night from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. Fridays through Sundays until Dec. 26th, then every night until Jan. 6th.

The Winter Flower & Train Show at Lincoln Park Conservatory (2391 N. Stockton Drive) is a great place for family holiday photos with model trains winding through miniature village settings and beautiful floral arrangements. Admission is free and the conservatory is open from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. daily. The exhibit will run until January 6, 2013 so make sure not to miss it!

The Christkindlmarket is back for its 17th year at Daley Plaza (50. W. Washington St.) This traditional German market has 50 vendors, several of which have come all the way from Germany to participate. The market will be open Sundays through Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Fridays & Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. through Dec. 24th for all your unique gift shopping needs. Plus there's always delicious and authentic treats for purchase to eat and drink. There will also be performances and heated tents to help make this the most enjoyable shopping experience in town.

AND don't forget to bring the kids down to see Santa at the UL Santa House at the Christkindlmarket. He'll be posing for pictures and making his list of kiddies' Christmas wishes during the hours of 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. while the market is open with special hours on Christmas Eve, Monday Dec. 24th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Just take note that Santa will be on breaks from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. everyday he is present.

Let's Spread the Joy and Start Enjoying The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
