CHICAGO NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS – LINCOLN SQUARE, PORTAGE PARK, LINCOLN PARK, LOOP, OAK PARK

LINCOLN SQUARE

Lincoln Square has become one of those neighborhoods known not only for its German heritage but also its budding art scene.  Coming this December, the Moberg Gallery @ The Space will be opening, further solidifying this scene.  The gallery will represent Chicago-area artists and provide art and design consulting to businesses in the area.  Recognized as one of the most recognized galleries in Iowa, TJ Moberg tapped the shoulder of Kate Mullin (a childhood friend) and Tim Duerkop to run the new facility.

PORTAGE PARK

Ahh the holidays.  A time of cheer, festivities and the occasional beverage.  Now you can try a new tasty treat.  Introducing Drunken Donuts, a trio of liquor-spiked fried delicacies, available starting today from Delightful Pastries. So how do they get the booze into your donut - custard.  There is a vanilla-bean-and-vodka flavor,

chocolate custard and Godiva chocolate liqueur, or there's even a donut filled with passion fruit and Grand Marnier jelly.

LINCOLN PARK

Welcome to Interurban, a secret walk-up window café located in a Lincoln Park alley, now open.  Charlie Trotter's vet Christine McCabe (late of Glazed and Infused) owns it. She's even brought Trotter's kitchen mixer out of retirement. It's the pastry equivalent of getting the band back together. For a hand-warmer during Lincoln Park shopping excursions, duck down this way and order steaming hot chocolate and poppable, Munchkin-sized red velvet Cake Bites.

LOOP

The holidays aren't the holidays in Chicago until the Art Institute's iconic lions are properly wreathed! This Sunday at 10:00am, there will be a short ceremony hanging the wreaths at the Michigan Avenue entrance of the Art Institute.  There will be music and complimentary hot chocolate.  Once the lions have been dressed, families are invited into the Ryan Education Center to create their own wreaths and other activities hosted by the National Hellenic Museum.

OAK PARK

Each year public libraries are rated by the Library Journal's Index of Public Library Service. This year Oak Park Library has received a highly-coveted 5-star rating.  The library is also ranked number one in Illinois within its budget category, which is measured by circulation of collection materials, number of visits, program attendance and internet use. "This is a huge honor for our community and recognizes its use and support of our public library," says Executive Director Deirdre Brennan.
