Just recently I told you about all the scams that are currently out there to get access to your personal information especially through PayPal.

I wanted to share information with you regarding ethical hackers.  These are professionals who test technology to ensure it's secure.  Ethical hacking may sound counterintuitive, however it's essential for cybersecurity.

Ethical hackers use the same tools and techniques as malicious hackers, but their purpose is to identify weak points in technology.  They are also known as "pen testers," or penetration testers, going as deep as possible into a company or organization's network accessing whatever sensitive data they can.  This information is used to help companies better protect their networks.

Ed Skoudis, a SANS Institute Faculty Fellow and founder of Counter Hack Challenges says, "Regardless of background, truly effective ethical hackers love a challenging puzzle.  They revel in taking things apart to find their flaws."

One such successful hack was showing credit card holders to acquire credit cards without a radio frequency.  Credit cards that allow for "quick pay" or "fast pay" have a radio frequency which can be easily scanned by a malicious hacker who can then take over your identity.

The moral, again, is protect yourself from these hackers by not giving them the opportunity to get your personal information.
