CHICAGO NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS – PORTAGE PARK, WEST LOOP, LAKEVIEW, GOLD COAST, NAPERVILLE
PORTAGE PARK

Thousands of Chicago residents now have new garbage days, with the grid collection system expanding. Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation Commissioner Thomas Byrne says residents may have their garbage picked up on a different day but service will still be weekly. The city estimates up to 20 percent fewer crews will be used in the first phase, while providing the same services. By working in a grid, the city expects to reduce fuel and vehicle maintenance expenses.

WEST LOOP

BellyQ, the highly anticipated Asian barbecue joint from the Belly Shack/Urban Belly folks, opens this week in the former One Sixtyblue space in the West Loop. When you hit the dining room, you'll notice a line of booths with built-in infrared table grills awaiting you. Sit, relax. Order Thai-style fried chicken. But when the time comes, be ready to throw some banana-leaf-wrapped salmon, Korean short ribs or spicy lemongrass chicken onto that grill. This is what you've been training for all summer.

LAKEVIEW

To celebrate the arrival of Chicago's first fully gluten free restaurant in the Lakeview East neighborhood, Bountiful Eatery invites you to their free neighborhood event. Hosted at 3312 North Broadway, the event will promptly begin on August 24th at 6pm and last until 8pm. Be the first to sample Bountiful Eatery's mini bison burgers and quinoa salad while receiving free chair massages from Bountiful Eatery's sponsor Aligned Medical Health.

GOLD COAST

Welcome to Sky Terrace at the Ivy Hotel, a semisecret rooftop in a new Streeterville boutique hotel, now open. The $28 million hotel opened six weeks ago in an old sliver of a mid-block office building that was entirely gutted and furnished. Come after work when you're looking for a place that is laid-back, is close to your office and has 360-degree views encompassing everything from Lake Michigan to Trump Tower, and plates of spicy tempura-battered fried shrimp.

NAPERVILLE

Naperville firefighter Christopher Brazzale is partnering a second time with the Pink Heals Tour to bring the trucks to Naperville for a wellness fair and fundraiser. This year, all proceeds will go to Edward Cancer Center. Friday's family-focused fair will feature a pink theme, with Naperville firefighters handing out pink fire hats and balloons, and selling pink lemonade and cotton candy. Funds will be raised through food and T-shirt sales and a special raffle by the Naperville Fire Department.
