CHICAGO NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS – PORTAGE PARK, LAKEVIEW, OLD TOWN, LOOP, EVANSTON

PORTAGE PARK

Paczki Day is almost here - February 21st.  This year learn how to make your very own paczki with Pastry Chef Dobra Bielinsky at Delightful Pastries.  For those who don't want to wait in line and have the satisfaction of not only making paczki but also "angel wings," then this class is for you.  Classes will take place at the baker in Jefferson Park.  Cost is only $50 and your place can be reserved by sending an email to student.info@delightfulpastries.com

LAKEVIEW

Each year the Chicago Cubs hold a Wrigley Field Advisory Community Meeting.  This year's meeting will be held at the 23rd District Police Station.  Some of the information to be covered includes 2011 Season Recap & 2012 Season Overview, Cubs Fund, City Department 2011 Service Reports / Planned 2012 Program, Department of Revenue, among others.  Don't miss this opportunity to see what's happening in the community.

LOOP

Have you ever seen those old movies where the main form of transportation is rail car?  If you've ever wondered what it would be like to have that experience, Pullman Sleeping Car Company invites you to join them for an inaugural trip.  For three days only, February 17-19, Pullman is set to launch a first-class rail travel project scheduled for late 2012 with overnight services from Chicago to New York City and New Orleans.

OLD TOWN

Flight 1551, a snug Old Town dispensary of obscure little wines and hearty comforts, now open. Three words. Three little words. Syllables, really.  That's all it takes. Say them once, and your date will turn to putty. "Grilled cheese flights". It's also a wine bar but with this extra special twist, it's sure to delight!

EVANSTON

This past Monday, aldermen will be asked to approve an increase in the annual production limit for Few Spirits, Evanston's only micro-distillery.  Owner Paul Hletko says business at the distillery is going better than expected but Evanston's liquor ordinance needs to be amended to make the new, higher cap on production for micro-distilleries effective in Evanston.
