PORTAGE PARK
Mmm, sushi. When it's
time for a casual and affordable dinner, come to this newly opened spot at 5056
W. Irving Park Road. E
Wok Café Hibachi & Sushi Grill opened just in time for the holidays
on December 22nd. It's a
neighborhood place for take-in or eat out.
Don't miss some pretty darn good food at great prices.
LOOP
The Option
Room, a tiny wood-paneled saloon tucked on a side street in the
Financial District, is now open. It's located in the front of the LaSalle
Atrium Building-the onetime Fort Dearborn Hotel from 1912-and still has the
original checkerboard tile and wood paneling, now highly polished and accented
with gilded mirrors and chandeliers dripping with crystals.
LAKE VIEW
Fuji Sushi Buffet claims to have
the largest buffet of its kind in Chicago. They opened at 3026 N. Ashland with
more than 50 types of sushi and sashimi.
Fuji also has hibachi, teriyaki, seafood and hot Japanese dishes. With
an affordable buffet starting at $10.95, this is sure to be a neighborhood
favorite.
LINCOLN SQUARE
After another 12 months of block-by-block evolution, what
'hoods will contend for the 2011 Curbed Cup's Best
Neighborhood Title? Lincoln Square and West Lakeview have made it to
the final four. According to Curbed
Chicago Lincoln Square offers cultural upgrades, city investment in a nature
preserve, lots of good eating and Half-Acre brewery. Curbed Chicago says West Lakeview offers Southport
Corridor and Wrigleyville, and a ton of housing.
OAK PARK
Local artist Bryan Northup is aiding the movement to repair Garfield
Park Conservatory with a limited edition art bowl created with glass
shards from the conservatory's damaged roof in the wake of a hail storm earlier
this year. The conservatory was
searching for ways to preserve the remnants from the June hail storm in time,
rather than simply tossing them. Proceeds are being split evenly between
Northup and the conservatory, which is putting those dollars toward restoring
their damaged buildings.
