THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO - ANOTHER BREAK IN THE ACTION!
How
lucky are we to have "another break in
the action" this weekend? After all,
you do realize what lies in wait for us?
That's right - an endless flurry (no pun intended) of non-stop holiday
activities. But for now, let's just
enjoy this weekend.
The Irish American Heritage Center (4626 N.
Knox Avenue) in the Irving Park/Avondale neighborhood will be hosting the 3rd
annual iBAM!,
which is a celebration of Irish Books, Art and Media! Featured at this year's event will be live
music, art exhibits, film screenings, theater performances, a poetry
competition, panel discussions, workshops and more, all taking place this
Saturday and Sunday (11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.).
The Logan Square Kitchen (2333 N. Milwaukee
Avenue) in the Logan Square
neighborhood will be hosting the Fall Pastry Market
this Saturday and Sunday (10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.) with over 12 local vendors on
hand selling their cookies, pastries, chocolates, coffee drinks and other
sweets as well. Also available will be
gluten-free and vegan treats too!
Naha (500 N. Clark Street) in the
River North neighborhood will be hosting the Chefs' Garage, Tag and
Bake Sale this Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This is your chance to browse both new and
used cookware, kitchen tools, chef knives, cookbooks, sauté pans and more from the
personal kitchens and restaurants where professional chefs work. While there, sweet treats from the best local
pastry chefs will be available for purchase and consumption!
Back
in Chicago for a one-week stand ending this Sunday is the Rock
of Ages at the Ford
Center for the Performing Arts - Oriental Theatre (24 W. Randolph Street)
in the Loop.
This Tony Award-nominated rock ‘n' roll event is a blast back to the
‘80s with hits from Pat Benetar, Foreigner, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Styx,
Whitesnake and others!
Navy Pier (600 E. Grand Avenue) in the
Streeterville neighborhood is hosting Chicago's Perfect 10
both Saturday and Sunday with a 10-mile or 10K course run along the lakefront,
which includes an afterparty. For those
not interested in the actual physical part, there will be a Quality of Life
expo as well with vendors focusing on healthy living. Need some ideas for a New Year's resolution?
And
finally, let's continue honoring our Veterans this weekend at the Move with the
Forces at Soldier
Field (1410 S. Museum Campus Drive) in the Grant Park Museums neighborhood
this Saturday at 9:00 a.m. This 5K
run/walk benefits the veterans who have been severely injured in Iraq and Afghanistan in honor of Veteran's
Day (11-11-11)!
