OLD TOWN
Presenting Kamehachi, an Old Town grotto loaded up
with sashimi and barrel-aged sake, opening Saturday. If
the name sounds familiar, it's because these guys helped introduce the city to
sushi back in 1967. These days, their new place looks like a sexy Kyoto
market-calligraphy on the walls, sake barrels hanging from the ceiling, sushi
chefs laying out raw fish on chilled river stones. Enjoy the cozy back dining
room, the serene and romantic upstairs riverbed-like lounge or the tatami room,
a tiny, shoji-screened rectangle of low-rise benches just big enough for you
and five friends. Not to mention they also feature a rolling sushi cart and karaoke
will undoubtedly be on the way.
OAK PARK
11/11/11 comes around only once in a century. For Oak Park
diners, 11/11/11 is their lucky day. Mancini's
Pizza and Pasta Cafe, which just happens to be located at 1111 Lake St.
in Oak Park, will mark 11/11/11 with special offerings for diners. "We'll be
offering 11 entrees for $11.11 on Friday and Saturday,'' a spokesman for the
restaurant said. In addition to getting a good meal at a good price, diners at
Mancini's on 11/11/11 and 11/12/11 will also be helping abused and neglected
children because the restaurant will donate 22 percent of the days' proceeds (11
multiplied by two) to Hephzibah Children's Association.
