CHICAGO NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS - PORTAGE PARK, LAKE VIEW, LOOP, OLD TOWN, OAK PARK

PORTAGE PARK

Portage Park dentists, Julie Maurice, DDS, and Michael Minihane, DDS, of Caring Dental Smiles have announced the launch of their new, patient-focused interactive website created by dental website design leader, ProSites, Inc. Dr. Maurice and Dr. Minihane's practice is utilizing the website to educate the community on the importance of oral health. The website possesses interactive attributes including educational videos and a free smile analysis feature to help patients make better informed decisions about their oral health.

LAKE VIEW

Roger Waters, the co-founder and principal songwriter of the progressive band Pink Floyd, has announced the return of the historic production of "The Wall" to North America in 2012. The show will make a stop at Wrigley Field on Friday, June 8, 2012. Tickets for "The Wall" in Chicago will go on sale on Monday, November 14 at 10:00 a.m.

 LOOP

AXIS Dance Company, one of the world's most acclaimed and innovative ensembles of performers with and without disabilities, will change the way you think about dance and the possibilities of the human body forever.  Coming to the Auditorium Theater on November 19 and 20, don't miss this exciting group.  Founded in 1987, AXIS has become a jewel of the contemporary dance scene and the disabled community

OLD TOWN

Presenting Kamehachi, an Old Town grotto loaded up with sashimi and barrel-aged sake, opening Saturday. If the name sounds familiar, it's because these guys helped introduce the city to sushi back in 1967. These days, their new place looks like a sexy Kyoto market-calligraphy on the walls, sake barrels hanging from the ceiling, sushi chefs laying out raw fish on chilled river stones. Enjoy the cozy back dining room, the serene and romantic upstairs riverbed-like lounge or the tatami room, a tiny, shoji-screened rectangle of low-rise benches just big enough for you and five friends. Not to mention they also feature a rolling sushi cart and karaoke will undoubtedly be on the way.

OAK PARK

11/11/11 comes around only once in a century. For Oak Park diners, 11/11/11 is their lucky day. Mancini's Pizza and Pasta Cafe, which just happens to be located at 1111 Lake St. in Oak Park, will mark 11/11/11 with special offerings for diners. "We'll be offering 11 entrees for $11.11 on Friday and Saturday,'' a spokesman for the restaurant said. In addition to getting a good meal at a good price, diners at Mancini's on 11/11/11 and 11/12/11 will also be helping abused and neglected children because the restaurant will donate 22 percent of the days' proceeds (11 multiplied by two) to Hephzibah Children's Association.
