CHICAGO NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS – NORWOOD PARK, GOLD COAST, LAKEVIEW, LOOP, EVANSTON

NORWOOD PARK

Ald. John Arena wants to develop more dining and entertainment options in the 45th ward as part of his effort to revitalize the business district there. He is also working on the ward's public art initiative through Arts Alive 45. Business improvement is a big focus for Arena, committing more than $1 million in Small Business Improvement Funding (SBIF) in the 45th Ward area TIF districts.

GOLD COAST

Welcome FOODease, a new gourmet grocer/wine shop for all your cold-weather culinary needs, opening in Water Tower Place. First, hit the sushi station for maki. Next stop: the deli case for baseball-sized chicken meatballs. Then load up on fried chicken, meatloaf and butternut squash ravioli at the hot entrée bar. There's a salad bar, too. Ignore it. Go back for more meatloaf. Then it's the wine room for the bubbly and finally a quick stop in the Chocolate Closet.

LAKEVIEW

Trader Todd's is counting down the days to Halloween.  Every Friday and Saturday starting at 8, treat yourself to a double feature to some of the scariest, spookiest movies out there - all on the big screen in the comfort of our heated beer garden. There's no admission fee, no tickets to buy - just grab a drink & some complimentary popcorn (because what's a scary movie without popcorn?) and get ready to scream!

LOOP

Be on the lookout for a late-model van matching the following description: Big. Silver. Smells like a barbecue pit. The Lillie's Q Meat Mobile is on the loose.  It shouldn't be hard to find-it's playing easy-to-get for the first three weeks or so. It will set up shop at 11am in the parking lot at Franklin and Calhoun, doling out some of the greatest hits from its rustically classy barbecue home base in Wicker Park.

EVANSTON

Bank of America has announced plans to charge a $5 per month fee to customers who used their debit card for purchases, and Wells Fargo and Chase have been testing a $3 per month debit card fee. But, Evanston-based First Bank & Trust "is not hopping on the bandwagon with the bigger banks," CEO Robert Yohanen said in a news release. "There is no value added to the customer experience."
