KATHY’S HOME & GARDEN TIPS – NEW STORAGE SOLUTIONS

Even in a small apartment there are ways to store your stuff neatly and it can look good too. In the kitchen pots can go up on a
rack suspended from the ceiling. Wide shelves can hold baskets or small containers to hold just about anything. A freestanding cart on wheels can hold small appliances. They usually have drawers to hold utensils and shelves to hold more pots. My cart I bought at
Ikea and it holds my cookbooks on one shelf in addition to my toaster, coffeepot and food processor. I also bought a two tiered utensil caddy from
Pampered Chef. It holds a couple dozen utensils and sits on the top of the cart near my stove. Everything is nearby and handy when I need it. I live in a typical Chicago frame bungalow with a very small kitchen. The cart and shelving doubles my space.
In the bedroom you can utilize under bed storage. Check out The Container Store. They have containers made just for under bed storage. Bed frames are also available with drawers underneath. A simple five shelf book case is great for holding small baskets that can contain and organize office supplies or small toys. A storage bench looks great, holds blankets or toys, and provides seating too!
Bathrooms in bungalows are small too and storage is challenging here also. Again, shelves are an option to hold toiletries, soaps and extra towels. Home improvement centers and department stores have small shelving units and even small cabinets that are relatively easy to install. A small freestanding cart is an option here too.
The shelving with bins and totes work almost anywhere in the house. Bins and totes come in many colors and work well from the mudroom to the kid's room to the basement. Baskets are also attractive and come in all shapes and sizes.
