THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO - A DOG GONE OSCAR WILD WEEKEND FOR CHICAGOANS!
Many Chicagoans will be having a "dog gone oscar wild weekend" as they close out the month of February 2011!  If you want to join in, here's what all the fuss is about -

This Saturday and Sunday brings to McCormick Place (2301 S. Lake Shore Drive) the 2011 International Kennel Club Cluster of Dog Shows.  Your nominal admission fee of $18 includes dog-related vendors, canine demonstrations, educational seminars, performance events as well as daily competitions by more than 10,000 purebred dogs from 161 breeds for "best in show" and much more!

This Sunday Chicago brings Hollywood to its various neighborhoods as the Oscars take center stage at the Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles.  However, there is one pre-Oscar event taking place this Saturday at the AMC Loews (600 N. Michigan Avenue) in the River North neighborhood.

In honor of the 10 nominated Academy Award films for "best picture", the Fifth Annual Best Picture Showcase will screen the last five films (first five shown last Saturday), and they are:  "Winter's Bone" (11:00 a.m.), "Black Swan" (1:00 p.m.), "Inception" (3:10 p.m.), "The Social Network" (6:45 p.m.), and "The King's Speech" (9:00 p.m.).  Admission includes a poster as well as a $10 AMC gift card!

Sunday evening brings Hollywood to these, and other bars, with their version of an Academy Awards/Oscars Viewing Party:

Academy Awards Viewing Party at Lincoln Hall (2424 N. Lincoln Ave.) Sheffield/De Paul neighborhood - their cocktail reception is from 4:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. followed by a celebrity look-alike contest with cash prizes and more, with the viewing of the awards show on a 220-inch HD projector!

Oscars Viewing Party at Blue Line Lounge & Grill (1548 N. Damen Ave.) Bucktown/Wicker Park neighborhood - the bar will be decked out with a red carpet and balloons with the Academy Awards screened on all its TVs.  Complete a ballot, by 6:00 p.m., predicting the winners for your chance to win a martini night on March 2nd!

Oscars Party at Fat Cat (4840 N. Broadway St.) Uptown neighborhood - you will receive 20% off your bill if you dress up as your favorite nominee or character from this year's nominations for best picture with an Oscar trivia following the awards show!

Oscar Party at Hidden Shamrock (2723 N. Halsted St.) Sheffield/De Paul neighborhood - a costume contest with prizes for best celebrity look-alike and best & worst dressed along with an awards-prediction contest, complimentary appetizers and drink specials headline this year's Oscar party!

Oscar Party at Kirkwood Bar & Grill (2934 N. Sheffield Ave.) Lakeview neighborhood - during the 83rd annual Academy Awards, play Oscar trivia for your chance to win $500!

Oscar Party with Richard Roeper at Rockit Bar & Grill (22 W. Hubbard St.) River North neighborhood -Chicago Sun-Times film critic, Richard Roeper, will be on hand to join you in the viewing of the Academy Awards which includes food, themed cocktails and Oscar pools!  Admission for this event is $50-$75.

JDRF Red Carpet Party at the Lux Bar (18 E. Bellevue Pl.) Gold Coast neighborhood - may be a little on the pricey side ($65-$80), but it's for a GREAT cause.  Bid on upscale items to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation as you watch the Academy Awards and indulge in a special appetizers menu and cupcakes from the "Crumbs Bake Shop!"
