PORTAGE PARK

Chicagoans remember Siskel & Ebert and then Ebert & Roeper.  Announcements were just made that local film critic, Ignatiy Vishnevetsky from mubi.com, and Christy Lemire of The Associated Press will be co-hosts of "Ebert Presents at the Movies."  Vishnevetsky moved to Chicago from Russia where he co-manages Odd Obsession, an underground and alternative video store.  Ebert will be a co-producer and host a weekly segment.

LAKEVIEW

The annual Cubs Caravan, in its 28th year, will visit local schools on January 12-13.  This year's Caravan will visit Augustus H. Burley School, 1630 West Barry Avenue, Lake View High School, 4015 North Ashland, Mt. Carmel Academy, 720 West Belmont and St. Luke Academy, 1500 West Belmont Avenue, promoting education and literacy during its annual two-day tour.  More than 75 schools submitted essays to the Cubs Caravan Visits My School Contest, demonstrating their allegiance to the Cubs and inviting a visit from the Caravan. This year's winner was Grover Cleveland Elementary School at 3121 W. Byron.

SOUTH LOOP

South Loop residents are gearing up for another great addition to the landscape, Trader Joe's.  It was recently announced that a fourth location at 1147 S. Wabash Ave. (Roosevelt Road and Wabash) will open sometime this year.  The total space is 14,700 square feet which is part of a two-story 40,000 square foot building.

RAVENSWOOD

If your resolution this year was to lose weight, this week is a great opportunity for you try one of Chicago Park District's 70 locations.  From now until January 9, you can extend the complimentary one-week period into a January-March 2011 winter-session membership.  Membership rates to the Chicago Park District's fitness centers are affordable and range from $30-$75 for three months.  Take advantage of kicking the tires before you buy.

NAPERVILLE

Spike Lee is coming to North Central College as the keynote speaker on January 18 during the 2011 Martin Luther King Week celebration.  Lee is set to speak at 7pm in Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave.  Tickets for the public are $20; call the North Central College box office at 630-637-7469 or visit www.northcentralcollege.edu/showtix.
