NORWOOD PARK

Kmart and LEGO have teamed up for a fun family event this Saturday, November 13.  Running from 12-1 pm, this free event for the kids has them building a LEGO bus and taking it home for free.  This is a while supplies last event so be sure to check in with your local Kmart.

LINCOLN PARK

It's a Blue Demon weekend in Lincoln Park.  This Friday is opening night for the women's team, featuring Coach Doug Bruno's 25th season.  The game starts at 7pm and tickets are $10 for Adults and $8 for Youth (2-17).  The men's team welcomes new head coach, Oliver Purnell, on Sunday.  Both games are held at McGrath Arena on the Lincoln Park Campus.

SOUTH LOOP

Potential police recruits for the City of Chicago are going through specialized physical training classes to prep for the police officer exam.  The city's recruitment efforts of attracting mature professionals are aligned with a trend that focuses on older, more mature and, ideally, less hotheaded recruits.  Once applicants have passed the initial application, they will be asked to take the written application on December 11 at McCormick Place.  Those that pass the written application will then go through a screening process that will include drug, psychological and background examinations.

LINCOLN SQUARE

Veterans are not the only people being honored this Thursday.  The Chopping Block on 4747 N. Lincoln is holding its annual Customer Appreciation Day from 10 am to 7 pm.  See their demonstration on how to make the famous Chopping Block Apple Pie.  Everything is available for 20% off, so now is the time to get that special something and sign up for the outdoor class on November 14, "How to Deep Fry a Turkey."

NAPERVILLE

As the season of giving thanks returns, you have an opportunity to join local communities across the nation and help St. Jude Children's Research Hospital fight childhood cancer.  The walk is Saturday, November 20.  The Give Thanks Walk is a family-friendly 5K to raise money for the kids.  Registrations are still being accepted for individuals and teams to participate.  This is one gravy train to join.
