Its post-Halloween which brings us "a ‘brief' lull in the action" here in Chicago as we switch gears to prepare for the arrival of the cold weather (bite my tongue) and the Holidays.  Not to fret though, there are still a few things you can do!

This weekend brings the world of art to Navy Pier (600 E. Grand Avenue) in the Streeterville neighborhood with the Intuit Show of Folk and Outsider Art, which is an exhibition and sale of art brut, ethnographic art, non-traditional folk art, outsider art, self-taught art and visionary art held in the pier's festival hall.  Your admission also includes entrance to SOFA Chicago, which is an International Exposition of Sculpture Objects and Functional Art featuring three-dimensional fine art from 80 galleries in 10 countries.  This is a high end arts exhibition and sale and may not be for everyone, but hey, go get some ideas on unique pieces for your home and create them yourself!  Also included is a lecture series on art-related topics featuring artists, collectors, critics and curators.

This Saturday brings the world of health to Millennium Park (201 E. Randolph Street) with The Dr. Oz Health Expo: Chicago offering visitors a chance to participate in elements of "The Dr. Oz Show" that include entering your age and vital statistics in the "Truth Tube", or sampling of healthy meals, or the touching of human and animal organs.  I thought Halloween was last week!

The Irish American Heritage Center (4626 N. Knox Avenue) in the Irving Park/Avondale neighborhoods will be hosting its 2nd annual iBAM!, which is a celebration of Irish books, book signings, panel discussions, workshops, art and media featuring a live mural painting, art exhibits, kids activities and much more.

The Allstate Arena (6920 Mannheim Road) in Rosemont brings to town this weekend through November 14th the 140th edition of The Greatest Show on Earth, the Ringling Bros. & Barnum & Bailey: Barnum's Funundrum circus featuring trapeze acts, elephants, cowboys, mermaids, pirates, two-tiered trampoline stunts and many other circus acts from six continents with 130 performers.  If you arrive an hour before show time, you'll be able to meet some of these performers, learn circus skills and more!

Lastly, this Saturday at Noon Macy's (111 N. State Street) in the Loop kicks off the Holiday season with their Great Tree Lighting by unveiling its famous holiday window displays for 2010 along with the 45-foot Walnut Room Christmas tree trimmed with 10,000 LED lights and 1,200 ornaments at their 102nd celebration!  Head to the 7th Floor.

Whether or not you perceive this weekend as a "brief lull in the action", just remember, you gain an hour as Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday - so, push those clocks back!!!
