With the official start of fall behind us, this last weekend in September brings a great "Fall Line-Up" for many Chicagoans, as well as a true fall chill to the air.

What better way to close out fest season than with Oktoberfest Chicago.  This annual street party takes place at St. Alphonsus, one of the City's oldest churches, at Lincoln and Southport Avenues in the Lakeview neighborhood, as it celebrates its German roots.  In true fest tradition, there will be plenty of bratwurst, beer and bands on hand for your oompah enjoyment!

Saturday brings the Lincoln Square Apple Fest to Lincoln Square, 4700 N. Lincoln Avenue from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  This 23rd annual fall fest welcomes fall with everyone's favorite fruit - the "apple".  About 36 vendors will be selling their farm-fresh fruit pies, candy apples, cider, fresh fruit and vegetables and more.  Enjoy live music, cooking classes and tastings, while the kids' are kept occupied with children's games.

Later Saturday evening, the DANK-Haus, located at 4740 N. Western Avenue, in the Lincoln Square neighborhood will be hosting their DANKtoberfest.  This annual German-American celebration will feature six draft beers, four of which are direct from Munich -- you can't get any more German than that, a sausage stand, gourmet gelato, live polka music and more!

Not the sausage-type, well, you're in luck because the Moonshine Brewing Company located at 1824 W. Division Street in the East Village/Ukrainian Village neighborhood will be hosting their Rib-a-Que Smoke-out this Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  This third annual event brings together more than a dozen amateur chefs and Chicago restaurants to compete for the title of "Smoke-out Champion".  Attendees will be able to taste samples from each contestant's booth as well as take advantage of food and beer specials.  Live music will be provided by The Carpetbaggers and The Hoyle Brothers.  A few of the participating restaurants are:  The Smoke Daddy Rhythm and Bar-B-Que, Timothy O'Toole's, The Fifty/50 and Sheffied's.

Another neighborhood fest is taking it to the streets and alleys surrounding the intersection of Glenwood and Granville Avenues in the Edgewater neighborhood.  The Edgewater Gralley will highlight two stages of live music, local restaurants selling food (a burger or hot dog is included with your ticket), art vendors, a green pavilion, kids' activities, raffles, silent auctions and a "sports corner" featuring college football broadcasts at its third annual fair this Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

It's never too early to begin preparing for Halloween!  This weekend brings the Chicago Horror Film Festival to the Portage Theater (4050 N. Milwaukee Avenue) in the Portage Park neighborhood.  This year brings the "Illinois Ghost Hunters", Willy Adkins and George Hawrylenko, as they investigate the Historic Portage Theater for none other than ghosts.  On Saturday, join the ranks of the living dead at Zombie Day for a costumed walk through Portage Park (4100 N. Long Avenue).  The walk begins at 12:30 p.m., but for make-up assistance come at 11:00 a.m.  The walk will then finish at 2:30 p.m. at the Horror Film Fest where you can continue on with your hauntings!

Enjoy your "Fall Line-Up" while it lasts, since fall usually has a tendency to skip right by us in favor of ‘Ole Man Winter!  Bite your tongue, Sue!!
