TECHNOLOGY TIPS - WINDOWS ANNOUNCES LARGE PATCH FOR TUESDAY

Cathy Mallers PhotoOn Tuesday, September 14, expect some major updates for your Windows programs as announced earlier this month from Microsoft.  Traditionally Microsoft makes large patches on the even numbered months, but this month in particular there will be more than double the maximum patches.

With three different operating systems and based on how the patches are rated, Windows 7 appears to be the most secure.  Windows XP will have three critical updates, which is Microsoft's highest rating for updates and the most critical updates in quite some time.

With the amount of patching that Windows XP requires and the vulnerabilities still not going to be fixed, organizations using this operating system will want to re-evaluate upgrading to a new operating system.  As far as the major concern with DLL loading, Microsoft states, "The DLL preloading issue is an ongoing investigation. We expect to address affected products through security bulletins and/or defense-in-depth updates."

Be sure to complete your critical updates if you are using the Microsoft operating system.
