Labor Day weekend has arrived here in Chicago, which means it's the "last fling" of summer, although officially, summer is with us until September 23rd!

While many of us will have an extended weekend - an extra day to sleep -- it's a perfect time to relax and enjoy the full extent of what the "last fling" has to offer us, and it all starts off with the --

Chicago Jazz Festival - now in its 32nd year, this lakefront music fest, which, by the way, is the city's longest-running fest, features local, national and international musicians on several stages in Grant Park located at 500 S. Columbus Drive this Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Then there's the Taste of Polonia - now in its 31st year, this cultural celebration of Polish traditions, billed as the "largest Polish fest in Chicago," features Polish sausage, sauerkraut, pierogi, kabobs, hot dogs, pizza and beer, along with costumed folk dancers, arts and crafts, kids' activities and a Sunday mass.  Five stages will feature Polish and American bands playing everything from polka to blues to rock on the grounds of the Copernicus Center located at 5216 W. Lawrence Avenue in the Jefferson Park neighborhood this Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Monday from 12:00 p.m. to only 10:00 p.m. -- we have work tomorrow!

Moving right along, the Bash on Wabash takes you to the South Loop at Wabash Avenue and 13th Street for their 7th annual Labor Day fest which features signature dishes from area restaurants, roasted corn (yum), beer and wine vendors, along with live music and DJs on two stages, arts and crafts, kids' activities, and a corn bags tournament this Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Continuing still a little further south, there's the African Festival of the Arts held in Washington Park located at 5100 S. Cottage Grove Avenue in the Washington Park/Woodlawn neighborhood.  This celebration of the African influence in America, now in its 21st year, will feature a food court, a beer and wine garden, a marketplace of over 300 international vendors featuring crafts, clothing, handmade jewelry and other wares along with live music and dance performances by local and international artists daily from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.  And, wrapping up the musical portion of this festival on Monday evening at 8:15 p.m. will be Chaka Khan.

Finally, Naperville, a west suburban neighbor of Chicago, will be hosting The Last Fling at the Naperville Riverwalk located at 100 W. Jackson Avenue this Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  This end-of-summer event will feature two stages of live music, food vendors, a beer garden, wine tasting and carnival rides along with a bags tournament, bingo, Big Wheel races, a pie-eating contest, kids' activities and more.  And, don't forget the Labor Day parade on Monday at 10:00 a.m.!

It Very Well May Be The Last Fling of Summer, But I Wouldn't Count On It!  Are You?
