CHICAGO NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS – PORTAGE PARK, LINCOLN SQUARE, LOOP, LINCOLN PARK, EVANSTON
Cathy Mallers PhotoPORTAGE PARK

Tonight, opening for your dining pleasure, is The Portage.  It's a new restaurant concept from the team who opened Tizi Melloul.  The Portage is right in the center of the neighborhood and offers classic American cuisine in a charming atmosphere with an inviting outdoor garden.  While in the opening phase the restaurant is BYO.

LINCOLN PARK

It's time to go blue today, Blue Man Group that is.  There is an open audition starting at 11 am at Briar Street Theater, 3133 North Halsted St.  If you feel you have the drumming skills, acting skills, are willing to relocate and meet the height requirement of 5'10" to 6'1" then come out to this national search.  Both male and female performers are encouraged to apply.

LOOP

So she crashed the NBC 5 news earlier this week and now Ellen Degeneres is at it again.  Today at 1pm, you can go the famous Bean to meet her staff and attempt to win free tickets to tonight's show.  There are five pairs of two tickets available.  Tonight's show will be taped for TBS.

LINCOLN SQUARE

As of June 1, the former Sit! Pet Boutique & Grooming Salon has been operating as SP2 (Soggy Paws 2).  Soggy Paws is a local chain with stores in Logan Square, Uptown and the South Loop.  The Lincoln Square location includes retail and grooming for dogs and cats, but not self-washing, which is why it's called SP2.  The other locations offer self-washing facilities.  Owners Paul Rathe and Kevin Richardson got their inspiration from the Crate & Barrel offshoot, CB2.

EVANSTON

Local resident and CPS teacher, Dan Hoyne, is a true humanitarian.  He donated his kidney to his favorite grocery store clerk, Myra de la Vega, a Filipina immigrant and single mother of two teenagers.  Pershing East Principal Antonia Hill declared March 23 "Dan Coyne Day," citing his "admirable deed that goes beyond the call of duty in serving the children of CPS."
