CHICAGO NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS – NORWOOD PARK, LINCOLN PARK, OLD TOWN, WEST LOOP, EVANSTON
NORWOOD PARK
Snow blowing a neighbor's front walk or driveway is something that just about anyone would appreciate. Local resident, Heather Aragosa, and her fiancé were the heroes of their neighborhood last year when they circled a three block radius on all-terrain vehicles equipped with plows.
This year after a tough hit economically, the plows were switched to a Toro CCR 2000E. Aragosa borrowed her father's snowblower and cleared the walks of her neighbors on either side. "I really need to get the walk of the lady next door," Aragosa said. "She's in her 90s."
LINCOLN PARK
It's a sad day today at the Lincoln Park Zoo where a 14-year old trumpeter male swan was euthanized yesterday. Trumpeter swans were thought extinct in the early 1900s until a small remnant flock was located in Yellowstone National Park. Through state conservation department efforts the trumpeter swans have made a comeback.
Commonly seen in a zoo pond with his mate, the pair sired 37 chicks and 34 of those have been successfully released into the wild. The zoo is now looking for a new mate for the female.
OLD TOWN
