CHICAGO NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS – NORWOOD PARK, LAKEVIEW, LOOP, LINCOLN SQUARE, NAPERVILLE
NORWOOD PARK
Last week, local community activists were honored at the Norwood Park Chamber of Commerce annual award dinner and officer installation. Those honored include Jim del Medico, Marilyn Jones and Corrine Schreiber. All have been living and working in the community for many years, making numerous contributions
While announcing their awards, local Alderman Brian Doherty, stated everyone in the room who survived 2009 deserves recognition.
LAKEVIEW
Sometimes a good wine tasting is a great way to end or start an evening. A favorite local spot for wine tasting is WineStyles on Belmont. I know, I know, you're going to say it's a chain, but I'm here to tell you that this location in particular is much, much more.
The owners are great at bringing in wines that everyone will enjoy. Not only do they do a lot of wine tastings at the store, they're both wine aficionados with great palates. This Thursday they are having a wine tasting with Diana Schweiger of Schweiger Family Vineyards.
LOOP
This Friday, join Comedian Margaret Hicks, a former Chicago Architecture Foundation docent for a Pedway Tour. Hicks is offering the tour to locals and visitors alike. Her goal is simple, become familiar with navigating the infrastructure and its surrounding architecture. And at lunchtime, especially in this weather, it's a lot warmer than the alternative. In true comedic style the tour ends at an underground food court. The cost is a mere $5.
LINCOLN SQUARE
You may have heard of it - the SuperBowl. This past Sunday, local store owner Tim Herron, owner of Tim's Baseball Card Shop in Lincoln Square, was given a spot on the Miller Lite commercial that aired.
According to Herron, "I'm just a small business guy. I'm the only one that works there. My mom helps me out on the weekends. So we'll see how big it gets," said Herron. "Anybody that went to the shoot, it's been really special."
NAPERVILLE
