KATHY’S HOME & GARDEN TIPS – STORAGE SOLUTIONS

Kathleen Weaver Zech - Dean's Team Director of Buyers Agency ServicesIn this current real estate market many people are deciding to stay in their homes instead of moving up to a larger space. We need to create ways to use the space we have more efficiently.

Add a second rod in the closet. Put a shelf or two above the rods. Put hooks on the wall and back of the door.

Clean out the closets twice a year. Try every item on. Clothing doesn't fit? Donate it. If you haven't worn an item for six month, get rid of it!

Store out of season clothes and extra linens under the bed. Use risers to raise the bed five or six inches to gain even more space.

Use dead space in the kitchen. There are cabinet organizers available for spices and cleaning supplies. Use a wooden roll around cart with drawers and shelves for small appliances and utensils.

A line of decorative hooks hung on the wall can store coats, purses, and scarves. Many come with a shelf on top, creating even more space.

Use trunks made of wood, metal, or wicker to function as a coffee or end table and provide loads of storage inside.

Add inexpensive cabinets in the basement. These can hold off season clothing and other items to free up closet space upstairs.

Weatherproof boxes can have dual functionality by storing outdoor items and also be used for seating.

We can be happy in the space we're in with a little thought and creative solutions for storage.
