LIL' BUDDY'S BLOG - Chicago Proposal To Limit City Households to Five Dogs is Tabled!
THE CHICAGO IL REAL ESTATE MARKET, AND OTHER THINGS CHICAGO, FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF A LITTLE WHITE DOG!

Hey, you dogs! Back from my Annual Thanksgiving Hiatus - and shocked by what I saw in the papers when I returned.
Here in Chicago, some City Aldermen - the austere body of humans who govern our fair city - have actually brought up and discussed the possibility of limiting the number of dogs who can live in any one household citywide.
Why the proposed limitation?
According to Chicago 31st Ward Alderman Ray Suarez, many irresponsible dog owners can't stop the barking, the fighting, the howling, and the pungent odor from their pets. Others breed their animals solely for fighting - or, intimidation.
Chicago Tribune Reporter Hal Dardick, in his Clout Street Blog last Sunday, quoted Suarez as saying he was acting in part due to one of his very irresponsible owners who failed to properly discipline or take care of their many pets.
The 5-Dog Cap was endorsed by the Chicago Police Department, as well as the Chicago Department of Animal Care and Control. However, Mark Rosenthal, the Director of the Animal Care and Control Department, conceded that any maximum number of dogs per Chicago Household ordinance would be very difficult to enforce. This, he feels, will be especially true as city budget cuts have trimmed the ranks of his department.
Animal advocate groups, along with Chicago Veterinarians, oppose the measure. They contend the 5-Dog (or possibly 5-Cat) Per Family Limit is somewhat arbitrary, and will punish many responsible owners, as well as those who foster homeless pets. Many more animals would need to be sent to already crowded animal shelters, and perhaps euthanized, if they are forced to follow such a limit law.
Of course, this Roving Dog Reporter checks in with an opinion, as does my Lil' Sister and Pup Reporter, Gracie Ella Moss.
We feel the ordinance is mis-guided, and will not solve a much broader problem of pet abuse, and the raising of violent animals at home, for intimidation and protection. Indeed, the vast majority of the humans owning us dogs are caring and responsible, and we hate to see responsible folks like our Human Mom and Dad, Dean's Team Members Dean and Sue Moss, be penalized over the actions of a few less responsible.
Although we're only a family of two dogs here in the South Edgebrook Neighborhood on the Northwest Side of Chicago, we strongly feel a Dog Cap completely misses the mark. (And, you dogs, you know I know all about "the mark," right?)
Geez . . . how would humans feel if WE were the AlderDogs, and we legislated a maximum of FIVE HUMANS per household?
Most would be up in arms, or, paws . . . yes?
Enjoy the weekend - but wear your Doggie Sweaters. It's gonna be chilly, perhaps snowy here over the next few days!
Brrrrrrrr!!!! Woooooof!
