TECHNOLOGY TIPS - CHICAGO IS GETTING A NEW AREA CODE

Okay, so I admit that I am a true geek. I received a notice in my phone bill about the new area code coming to Chicago. It's actually important info you'll start seeing on the news in a couple weeks so I thought I'd give you the heads up.
Starting November 7, the new area code will be 872. This may not seem like a big deal to most of us, but one thing to remember is that now if you are or have a phone number in the 773 or 312 area code, you will be required to use 11-digit dialing.
Translated this means, you have to dial all digits including the "1" before the area code. For example, if you were calling the Chicago Cubs, you would dial 1-773-404-CUBS. Traditionally, the 312 area code has been for our downtown/Loop area and the 773 area code is for the outlying areas of the city, aka the neighborhoods.
You can already start using the 11-digit dialing system for your phone calling, just to get in the habit. I tried it this past weekend with no problems. One thing to remember is all those stored phone numbers on your cell phone also need to be changed to 11-digit dialing.
