THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – It's Apple Picking Time . . . and MORE!
It's the last weekend in September already, which always conjures up memories of a special time of year for me - Apple Picking! Not only can one pick apples, but many orchards throughout Illinois also have a variety of fruits and vegetables to be harvested as well.
Make it a day of fun and relaxation with family and/or friends, and take a drive to one of the following orchards, while apple picking is still in season. Learn more about the following orchards, as well as many, many more to choose from (not all counties listed) --
DeKalb County: Jonamac Orchard in Malta
Kane County: Kuipers Family Farm in Maple Park, Pine Apple Acres in Huntley
Kendall County: Knutson's Country Harvest in Newark
Lake County: Heinz Orchard in Green Oaks, Ziegler's Orchard in Grayslake
McHenry County: Homestead Orchard, Lang's Orchard, More Than Delicious Orchard, Woodstock Country Orchard all in Woodstock; Prairie Sky Orchard in Union; Royal Oak Farm Orchard in Harvard
Will County: Apples on Oak in Lockport; Garden Patch Farms & Orchard in Homer Glen
Prefer sticking around Chicago instead. Well, this weekend's happenings are -
This is your last chance to head on over to Randolph and Ada Streets in the West Loop neighborhood for the sixth annual Randolph Street Market Festival featuring more than 200 antique and vintage collectible dealers, themed mini-markets and more. Click here for all the details.
Head on over to Moonshine (1824 W. Division St.) in the East Village/Ukrainian Village this Saturday for the Rib-a-Que Smoke-out where 16 Chicago restaurants vie for the title of Smoke-out Champion. Click here for more information.
With fest season drawing to a close, wrap it up with either Oktoberfest Chicago at Lincoln and Southport Avenues in the Lakeview neighborhood, or Oktoberfest on the Square at Dunlays on the Square (3137 W. Logan Blvd.) in the Logan Square neighborhood. Get all the details by clicking here.
And finally, what would football season be without Supercrawl Saturday! Crawl your way to eight Wrigleyville bars starting off at Harry Caray's Tavern Wrigleyville and wrapping up at Murphy's Bleachers. You'll even have a chance at winning Chicago Bears game tickets. Find out more by clicking here.
Word of advice - you better experience the fall season now because it doesn't stick around. All one has to do is blink and it's gone only to find ‘ole man winter on your doorstep!
HAPPY PICKINS'!!
