LIL' BUDDY'S BLOG - Barking Dogs in Chicago Might Draw Fines - $250!

THE CHICAGO IL REAL ESTATE MARKET, AND OTHER THINGS CHICAGO, FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF A LITTLE WHITE DOG!

His Majesty, Buddy Holly Moss - Guards the Moss Family Compound - 09-18-2008Watch your mouth, you dogs!

If a new law proposed by Chicago Aldermen Pat O'Connor of the 40th Ward, and Richard Mell of the 33rd, goes into effect, your humans might have to pony up a $250 fine if you bark too loudly!  The story was reported in yesterday's Chicago Tribune by Dan Blake.

What?

I have always been an advocate of free speech - especially among dogs, as you likely know.  When someones walks by our back gate facing the alley in our North Side of Chicago Home - "Casa Moss," as known by some, "House of Buddy" as known by many others - we have to bark to tell others - human and canine - this is OUR place!  Right?

Apparently, however, some of our four-pawed brethren have taken the barking thing too far.  Often times, our humans fail to shut many of us up - sometimes, early in the morning, or late at night, when most humans try to get a little sleep.

Sometimes, complaining to the offending dog's human simply does not work.  This is especially true for the less-trained among us, or those of us who have especially pungent neighbors!

Alderman Mell envisions a situation where police can cite an offending dog owner who fails to silence his dog.  The dog owner would receive a fine ranging from $50 to $250, depending if it's a repeat occurrence.  Noises the alderman is targeting include "habitual barking, whining, crying, howling, or whimpering" that, in the judgment of the police officer, would be louder than two humans carrying on a conversation at a distance of 100 feet or more.

That would be terrible as far as me and my Lil' Sister, Gracie Ella Moss, would be concerned.  That fine would likely come from our Meaty Bone Budget!

But, maybe, such a move would help us get more sleep at night.  Some of our four-pawed neighbors - loudmouths!

Enjoy the weekend, you dogs!
