THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO - LET’S JAZZ IT UP!

Oh, Oh! It's Labor Day Weekend already. How the heck did it get here so fast? I feel as if I lost a month somewhere. I'm just not ready to let summer go yet and neither is Chicago! There's quite a line-up for this three-day weekend. Well, for most of us anyway. Check it out -
Taking top billing is the 31st Annual Chicago Jazz Festival. It's Free! So come on down to Grant Park (300 S. Columbus Drive) and jazz it up this weekend with performances by local, national and international performers. You'll be glad you did! Click here for the line-up of who'll be performing when and on what stage.
Of course, the weekend wouldn't be complete without the usual neighborhood festivals that take place all summer long -
African Festival of the Arts. More than 300 international vendors will be celebrating the African influence in America at Washington Park (5100 S. Cottage Grove Avenue) in the Woodlawn neighborhood. Live music, dance performances, themed pavilions and more are sure to keep you going all day long! Click here for more information.
Taste of Polonia. Polish traditions are celebrated at this outdoor event billed as the "largest ethnic fest in Chicago" now in its 30th year. Dine on pierogi and other Polish dishes or pizza and hot dogs at the Copernicus Center (5216 W. Lawrence Avenue) in the Jefferson Park neighborhood. Click here for dates, times and live music lineup.
Bash on Wabash. This Labor Day fest, in its sixth year, features food from local area restaurants, local artwork, live music and more in the South Loop neighborhood at 1300 S. Wabash Avenue. Click here for more details.
For my cycling enthusiasts, it's the International Barbecue Tour again this year in the Edgewater neighborhood. Your 14.5-mile cycle and taste tour will kick-off at Pause (1107 W. Berwyn Avenue) on Saturday, September 5th. Click here for more details as well as your taste tour menu.
For my ice cream lovers - that's ME - it's the Chicago Luxury Ice Cream Festival this Friday, September 4th, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum (2430 N. Cannon Drive) in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. BTW, there's more than ice cream so click here for more information - RSVP recommended.
For my "trekkie" fans, it's the ‘Star Trek' Chicago Expo and Film Marathon this Friday and Saturday at the Portage Theater (4050 N. Milwaukee Avenue) in the Portage Park neighborhood. Double features include "The Wrath of Kahn" and "The Search for Spock" with a Q&A session before the 8:00 p.m. double feature with Captain Pike (actor Sean Kenney). Afterwards, check out the Star Trek-related exhibitors and vendors. Click here for times and prices.
Here's to an "R&R" Labor Day Weekend!!
