KATHY’S HOME & GARDEN TIPS - CONSERVING WATER IN THE HOME AND YARD
There are many ways to conserve water around the house. Here are some great examples that you can implement today and it won't break the bank.
If you cover your sidewalk with a porous material, such as pavers or gravel instead of solid cement or asphalt, rainwater will be able to soak into the ground slowly and avoid water running off into the sewer.
Collect water in rain barrels for use in your containers and garden. Plants love the warmer non-treated rain water.
You can save gallons of water a day by fixing leaky sinks.
When you wash your car, use a bucket of water instead of leaving the hose run the entire time.
Use water-wise shower heads designed to conserve water. These shower heads are not expensive and will save a hefty amount of water.
Become more efficient in the shower, no more than 5 minutes.
Catch water that typically goes down the drain for other uses. The water you collect while waiting for the water to heat can be used for your plants or washing floors and such.
Run your washing machine and dishwasher only with full loads. Doing such during off peak hours will also help energy sources.
Adding the pavers or gravel and the shower heads are two ways to increase the value of your home and benefit the environment in a cost efficient way.
