TECHNOLOGY TIPS - GOOGLE SUPPORTS OBAMA VOLUNTEERISM INITIATIVE
Using the power of the web is one of the main facets of President Obama's success with this past year's election.
One of the new initiatives that he has launched is Serve.gov. First Lady Michelle Obama introduces the site here.
What Google has done is offer All for Good, which is a website that aggregates volunteer opportunities within the US from a number of charities and other websites. This search tool is now being used as part of the search in Serve.gov.
The search engine is similar to the regular Google search. You simply enter the type of volunteer work your interested in doing and where. The site will then show a list of opportunities with an option to sort by date.
Google has also made this search engine an API. On their blog Google states, "we’ve built All for Good as a platform to encourage innovation in volunteerism."
