LIL' BUDDY'S BLOG: Here's a Dog Story With a Very Happy Ending!
THE CHICAGO IL REAL ESTATE MARKET, AND OTHER THINGS CHICAGO, FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF A LITTLE WHITE DOG!
It's Summer, you dogs! Have you gassed up? Ready to hit the road?
I am!
But amidst all the depressing Chicago Real Estate News - rising foreclosures, falling home values, short sales, climbing interest rates, it is so gratifying to find some Good News in the Chicago newspaper.
Especially, good news concerning one of our own brethren - a member of the four-pawed set!
Che, a pug-Shar-Pei mix, was thought to be lost when she apparently disappeared from the Montrose Avenue Dog Beach the other day. Her human, Rebecca Balabolil from the North Side of Chicago, was frazzled and fearful, as you might expect.
According to a Chicago Tribune story reported by Pat Curry, Balobolil lost Che last Friday afternoon, taking her eyes of her little friend for only a minute while chatting with another human. She at first feared her pup was stolen - dog-napped, actually!
She immediately posted "Lost Dog" flyers in her neighborhood and near the beach. She frantically contacted local vets and animal shelters. She even enlisted the help of her mother, who flew in from Cleveland OH, to help in her search.
Coincidentally, later Friday afternoon, Angie and Jim Slavik were driving north on busy Lake Shore Drive, and spotted what turned out to be Che in the grass at the side of the road as they approached the Wilson Avenue exit. Fearing the dog would run into traffic and be injured, these Good Dog Samaritans pulled over, blocked traffic, and guided the dog into their car.
The dog wore a collar, but had no identification tags. Che temporarily moved into the Slavik home, and enjoyed playing with the two Slavik human children for a few days. The kids even temporarily renamed him - Bruno!
While considering whether to take Che into the vet to see if he had an identifying micro chip (get one, you dogs - me and my Pup Reporter Gracie Ella Moss each have one - we never want to be lost), and hesitating to take the dog into the pound or turning him over to Chicago Animal Control, they spotted the story about Balabolil and her missing canine on the TV News last night. Within minutes, they arranged a hasty reunion at the McDonald's Restaurant at the corner of Ridge and Devon Avenues in the West Rogers Park Neighborhood of Chicago.
Che's Human Ms. Balabolil gratefully paid a substantial reward to the Slavik's, who plan to use the money to buy a new puppy for themselves and their family. You see, they lost one of their own puppies in 2008.
So now, Che and her human, Rebecca are reunited, and every thing is back as it should be!
Doesn't that bring a tear to your little eye? But be careful wiping away that tear, you dogs - you don't want to scratch your eyeball with your claws!
Enjoy your weekend - hey, head to a Chicago Dog Beach!
And - check out Curry's story for a heart-warming Family Reunion Pic of Che and her Human, Rebecca!
