NO INCOME TAX HIKE FOR IL RESIDENTS - Not Yet, Anyway!

IN DOWNSTATE SPRINGFIELD IL, STATE LEGISLATURE FAILS TO PASS 67% STATE INCOME TAX, SALES TAX HIKES!  "TEMPORARY" STATE BUDGET NOW IN PLACE!

Do you live in Chicago?  Downstate Illinois?  Worried about new, higher 5% State Income Tax Proposal needed to close the state's budget deficit?  Concerned about a higher State of ILPersonal Income Tax?  Or, Higher Sales Taxes, on services not taxed before - including Cable TV - to make ends meet?

Well, you can let your breath out!  For now, anyway.

In Springfield IL, the IL State Capitol. earlier last evening, the IL House failed to pass a tax increase measure approved by the IL Senate, failing to concur with a 42-74 contrary vote.  Click here for ongoing downstate coverage by Chicago Tribune Reporters Ray Long and Monique Garcia.

Facing a midnight, May 31st Budget Deadline, the legislature got together for one final try and passed a "temporary" budget that few agree would last more than a few months.  The budget has no tax increases, proposed by new IL Governor Pat Quinn, or earlier approved by the IL Senate.

Finger pointing galore on both sides of the aisle downstate - Democrats lambasting Republicans, and the GOP lambasting right back.  A likely special session to address our state's budget deficit is on the way.

Only, only in Illinois!
