THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO - THINGS ARE PICKING UP AROUND CHICAGO!
Sue MossThings are finally beginning to pick up around here in Chicago!  As we head into May, not only are the trees and flowers beginning to bloom, but so is the City's summer calendar of events.

Here's a snapshot of what's happening around town this weekend.

Since Cinco de Mayo happens to fall on a Tuesday this year, several celebrations of Hispanic culture are taking place over the weekend.

Cinco de Mayo Festival - Douglas Park in the Lawndale neighborhood.  Food vendors, carnival rides, live music and DJs will abound at this annual celebration.  Click here for dates and times.

Mole de Mayo - Little Tuscany neighborhood.  Food and drink vendors from area restaurants, to mariachi bands and dance performances, to a mole cook-off and lucha libre wresting will adorn this celebration.  Click here for date, times and participating restaurants.

Cinco Division - various locations in the City.  Two nights of live music with Corona and Sauza shots specials, as well as a broadcast by WKQX-FM 101.1.  Click here for dates, times and locations.

Cinco de Mayo Comedy and Music Fiesta - Joe's Bar in the Old Town neighborhood.  Local comics and music sets are featured at this celebration with $5 specials on nachos, pitchers of Coors and margaritas.  Click here for dates and times.

Cinco de Mayo Parade - kicks off at Noon on Sunday at Cermak Road and Damen Avenue.  Click here for more information.

Of course, there are many more celebrations being held on Tuesday, May 5th, as well, so check it out!

The Merchandise Mart in the River North neighborhood will be hosting the City's third annual celebration of arts and culture featuring --

Artropolis - this four-day celebration features three major exhibitions and more than 85 local cultural institutions.  If you ride your bike to the Mart, you'll get free admission!  Click here for dates, times and prices.

Art Chicago - see drawings, paintings, photography , prints and much, much more representing artists from around the world.  Click here for dates, times and prices.

International Antiques Fair - features collectibles from more than 100 dealers from the world over.  Click here for dates, times and prices.

Last, but not least, the Kentucky Derby is this Saturday, and for those of us less fortunate to make the trip down to Kentucky, Chicago brings it to you!

Arlington Park Derby Party is Illinois' largest Kentucky Derby gathering!  Click here for more details.

Kentucky Derby Party at Hawthorne Race Course - besides horse racing festivities will include a chili cook-off, raffles, live music and much more.  Click here for more details.
