LIL' BUDDY'S BLOG: Chicago Sears Tower Getting A Name Change!
THE CHICAGO IL REAL ESTATE MARKET, AND OTHER THINGS CHICAGO, FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF A LITTLE WHITE DOG!
Sorry about the delayed post, you dogs!
You see, Team Leader Dean and I just completed the Floyd Wickman School of Speaking and Training in the Detroit Suburb of Livonia MI. Both of us can serve our clients now with stronger speaking skills than ever before.
Now, Dean knows how to better prepare his Real Estate Talks and Office Meetings. As for me, I now bark with greater authority!
You're not going to believe this, but the iconic Sears Tower in The Chicago Loop will soon have a different name, It appears there is nothing anyone is going to be able to do to stop it!
No Kidding! Read Mary Ellen Podmolik's story in yesterday's Chicago Tribune for more details.
This summer, the Sears Tower will be re-named the Willis Tower, after a London-based Insurance Brokerage that just bought the naming rights, as well as some office place on three floors of the 110-story building.
As you can imagine, most humans, and the majority of dogs, finding out about the name change are simply furious! They grew comfortable with the Sears Tower name, even though the once-largest-U.S.-retailer moved from the building over 16 years ago, to a new home in the Chicago Suburb of Hoffman Estates IL.
The tower was built amid much fanfare in 1973, and for many years was the tallest building in the entire world, eclipsing the Empire State Building in New York City. Although passed up in world-wide height by several Asian skyscrapers, the building is still the tallest in the Western Hemisphere.
The name change has drawn ire from many local Chicagoans who still lament the name disappearance of the Marshall Fields name from the Chicago area landscape two years ago. Indeed, many might still refer to the building as the Sears Tower for years to come, as they have for other Chicago Buildings, and even the Chicago White Sox Home, many since renamed for new corporations who bought the naming rights.
But most casual observers attach only glancing importance to the change. Even Chicago Mayor Richard Daley is somewhat ambivalent, citing that Sears themselves moved out of the city in 1992.
As I walk by the building, you dogs - I will always think of The Tower by its old name - especially when I rear back on my hind paws to try to see all the way to the top!
Enjoy the weekend!
