THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO - A HODGE PODGE WEEKEND!

Sue MossWith temperatures rising above freezing this weekend in Chicago, you might consider partaking in one of the following outdoor activities, especially if you're climbing the walls:

The Lakeview Polar Bear Club's Eighth Annual Celebration of Shrinkage will be held at Oak Street Beach.  This event is free; however, donations will be accepted on behalf of a local family in need.  Of course, taking a dip in the downright frigid waters of Lake Michigan is not mandatory but could prove to be very invigorating.  Are you up for the challenge?  Click here for more information.

Millennium Park is hosting their Frozen Fun Fest.  This winter celebration has much to offer with various ice-themed activities for adults and kids alike, as well as hot chocolate vendors to keep the chill off.  Click here for more details.

If you're in to Jazz, the Evanston Jazz Festival is this Saturday, 7:30 p.m., at the Evanston Township High School Auditorium (1600 Dodge Avenue).  Click here for ticket prices and performers.

Of course, this weekend has its pick of indoor events as well -

The Spring Flower Show at the Garfield Park Conservatory (300 N Central Park Avenue) will display many seasonal blooms.  Why wait for spring?  It may never get here!  Click here for dates and times.

Alright all you cycle fans, this weekend belongs to you at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont.  The Cycle World International Motorcycle Show is in town!  View hundreds of the latest ATVs, cruisers, dirt bikes and more.  Click here for more details.

Finally, in honor of Abraham Lincoln's 200th anniversary of his birth on February 12th, the Harold Washington Library Center in the Chicago Loop will feature an exhibit entitled Tall Man of Destiny: Images of Abraham Lincoln.  This exhibit only runs from February 7th to February 28th, so don't be a procrastinator, click here for more information.

So, do yourself and your family a favor, and get out of the house this weekend.  Who knows, you may begin to feel the stirrings of summer approaching, and hear in the distant winds those words we've been longing to hear again - PLAY BALL!
